Thirty-seven alumni, spanning 46 years of graduating classes, attended and participated in the first BRAIN for Business meeting at Barraco’s on 95th Street in Evergreen Park, on Thursday, April 25, 2013. The 80’s led the way with twelve participating alumni, followed by nine from the 70’s, seven from the 00’s, five from the 90’s, three from the 60’s, and one from 2011. They came to meet fellow alumni and exchange information about their respective or prospective careers, with hopes of growing their business opportunities among fellow alumni. The goal is to continuously expand BRAIN (Brother Rice Alumni Interactive Network) for Business through regular face-to-face meetings throughout the year, along with interactive participation through online registration for the website directory.
Guest speaker, Tony Michalek ’78 had no problem capturing and maintaining the attention of thirty-six fellow alumni, relating thoroughly entertaining networking stories from his careers in the NFL and in business, leading to his venture as President of Michalek Media. Tony challenged fellow alumni with building BRAIN without being satisfied with simply meeting and sharing a couple of beverages and pizza, which is great, but not as great as learning new ways to network and always following up on opportunities.
To learn more about the mission of BRAIN for Business and to check for schedule of next meeting, visit the BRAIN for Business page or contact Jim Casey ’70 at jcasey [at] brrice [dot] org. The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for June 25, with a location to be determined.
As part of the spirit of BRAIN, participants and other alumni are invited to challenge themselves to match the following careers with the following names of alumni who participated on April 25th. There is no need for Brother Rice to provide a prize for who can match the most names with their careers, because the knowledge derived from such conscientious networking will provide its own rewards. However, for those who came to BRAIN at Barraco’s, a BRAIN SCAN (Selective Collection of Alumni Network) of business cards will be sent as a resource, as soon as we secure permission from everyone to do so. You are advised to use context clues and encouraged to use your favorite search engine. Also, one choice can be applied to two different alumni.
