Dear Members of the Brother Rice Family,
On behalf of the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers at Brother Rice High School, I am pleased to welcome you to the new Campus Ministry page of our new website. This website and page- along with the new science labs and parking lot – are not the only new things at Brother Rice this year though. For the first time in the history of Brother Rice H.S., a Brother will not be leading our school. We are most blessed to have two devout Catholic laymen and sons of Edmund- Dr. Kevin Burns as our new President and Mr. Jim Antos as our returning Principal- leading our school community beginning this school year.
The Brothers want to let our community know that our mission at Brother Rice is far from over though. This year, eight Brothers will be working in a variety of teaching, tutoring, counseling, coaching, moderating, retreat, service, activity, intramural, and administrative ministries for the students of Brother Rice- some of them new too.
I am especially happy to welcome to Brother Rice one of the newest Edmund Rice Christian Brothers- Brother Timothy Granzatto, CFC- who just professed his First Vows in our Chapel here at Brother Rice H.S. in late July. Brother Granzatto is joining our faculty this year and he will be working alongside veteran counselor Brother Carty in the Guidance Office. You will learn more about Brother Granzatto- as well as all the Brothers at Brother Rice- in a new feature titled “Meet the Bros of Bro. Rice” that we will initiate soon.
Speaking of new, I have been asked by our school leaders to assume a new ministry this year- Campus Minister. I look forward to working with the entire Brother Rice community in our spiritual mission- our primary mission as a Catholic school. In concert with our President and Principal, it is my task to safeguard and extend the charism of Blessed Edmund and the spirit of the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers for the entire Brother Rice Family. Please contact me for any assistance that I, the Campus Ministry Program, or the Brothers can provide to this end- whether to ask prayers for a loved one, to remember a special intention at our weekly liturgy offered by our Chaplain Father Mark Walter- Pastor of St. Christopher Parish in Midlothian, or to request service from our Peer Ministers- amongst others.
On behalf of the Brothers, may Our Mother of Perpetual Help, our patroness and eternal Mother, and Blessed Edmund Rice, our namesake and Founder, bless us all as we begin our fifty-fourth year of serving southwest Chicagoland. Finally: Live, Jesus in Our Hearts… FOREVER!
In Blessed Edmund Rice,
Brother Paul Ickes, CFC
Brother Rice High School Campus Minister
