Mr. Antos Announces Honor Roll Stats for the Second Quarter

Brother Rice Principal Mr. James Antos was pleased and proud to announce that 523 of the 838 Brother Rice students made one of the school’s honor rolls for the second quarter.  This translates to 62.5% of the school!  The break down includes 66% of the senior class, 57% of the junior class, 58% of the sophomore class; and 69% of the freshman class.

Mr. Antos congratulated the students for continuing to work diligently through the second quarter.  He also thanked the faculty their work in making our students’ academic success our top priority.

Antos Announces – September 7, 2011

The opening couple of weeks of school certainly have been busy for all of us especially our young Crusaders.  Most students and many of our Moms and Dads have reported that these first days of school have gotten off to a great start.  Yes, it’s certainly early in the school year but great beginnings bode well for the future.  Our partnership is critical for your son’s success and development – may our journey together always move forward.

There are times when communication may falter like when computers (email, too) are down for teachers or phone service is interrupted for some mysterious reason.  When these things happen our fax number is usually accessible for an emergency contact; that number is 1-773-779-5239.

Also please contact me if you are unable to reach a particular teacher or if her/his response time to you exceeds our thirty-six hour rule. Similarly teachers are expected to upgrade your son’s grades/assignments on the 15th and 30th of each month.  If you don’t see an upgrade at these times, please call me and I will get the wheel in motion.

At this point of the school year I have used our phone blast system on at least two occasions.  When there is some upcoming, significant school event or a reminder on some important issue, I will be in touch.  Cancelling classes for some weather related situation is always a last resort but may be necessary and may be the most prudent thing to do but it is usually done in conjunction with neighboring schools especially Mother McAuley.  In this case I will start our phone contact system at 5:00 A.M.  Finally, check out the web site calendar for upcoming events and as usual the daily school announcements are posted on our site by 10:15 A.M.

Thank you for the sacrifices of energy, time and resources for the BR family and for entrusting us to give your son(s) the best education possible.

God bless and “live Jesus in our hearts, forever.”

Re: Action to restore Textbook Loan Program

Legislation to restore funding to the Textbook Loan Program has been introduced in the Illinois House and Senate: House Bill 1199 introduced by Representative Joe Lyons & Senate Bill 1964 introduced by Senator Ed Maloney.

Every school: please contact your State Representative and Senator and urge them to sign on as co-sponsors!  Your school LAP can coordinate the outreach, be it through meeting, phone call or letter.  You can find out who your state Rep. and Senator are by going to the General Assembly web site (www.ilga.gov) and clicking on Legislator Lookup in the lower half of the page or by calling our Springfield office: 217-528-9200.

Check out our web site for a fact sheet on the issue: www.catholicconferenceofillinois.org.  Your support of this initiative is essential – please be sure your representatives hear from you and your school community!

Antos Announces – New Tax Law Includes Key Education Provisions

The tax-cut measure that President Obama signed into law last week preserves for another two years the historic Coverdell Education Savings Accounts, which were first enacted in 2001. The accounts allow families to earn tax-exempt interest on up to $2,000 in annual savings for specified expenses, including tuition, associated with elementary, secondary, or post-secondary education in a public or private school.

The new law also extends for two years the above-the-line deduction for certain expenses incurred by elementary and secondary school teachers. Classroom teachers and certain other personnel in public and private schools may continue to deduct up to $250 for their out-of-pocket expenditures for books, computer equipment and software, and other materials and supplies used in the classroom.

Antos Announces – December 13, 2010

Principal Jim Antos

Dear Brother Rice Families,

From time to time I will use this space on our website for, what I believe, is timely information.  This first communiqué centers on school closing due to inclement weather.

Closing school due to inclement weather is always an issue during these winter months.  While closing school is always a last resort and usually done in conjunction with other area Catholic high schools, it is, at times, the most prudent thing to do.  Please note that our “phone blast” system will be in place.  If bad weather or some other situation warrants school cancellation, you will receive a phone message (usually my voice) utilizing the “alert” program beginning at 5:00 am!  This phone system is highly reliable IF WE HAVE YOUR APPROPRIATE/CORRECT PHONE NUMBER.  If you have any doubts about whether or not we have your correct number(s), please contact Mrs. Debbie Cook at extension 111.  Secondly, if available, major TV station notification will also be used.  Finally, if we have a LATE start (rather than a school cancellation) due to inclement weather or some other situation, that schedule may be found on page 8.

My wish for you and for your family is the joy and happiness of the Baby Jesus and the Holy Family.  God bless you and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
