The Brother Rice science department welcomed Dr. Neal Haskell, forensic entomologist and professor of biology at St. Joseph’s College in Indiana, to speak to science classes about his work. Nationally-known and respected, Dr. Haskell has testified in many high profile cases requiring his expertise, including the recent Casey Anthony trial in Florida. He teaches forensic classes at St. Joseph’s and discussed what a forensic student would learn in his class. Dr. Haskell fielded questions from the students and relayed to them that many of his students have been very successful at securing positions in this field of science.

Physics Students Explore Wright-Patterson Air Force Base
Over the Christmas break, Brother Rice physics teacher Br. Patrick Hayes and Principal James Antos took eleven physics students to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, to tour the Air Force museums. Students were able to see hundreds of planes from the early Wright Brothers era to the modern Stealth bombers. The students also visited the Wright Brothers bicycle shop in Dayton.

Brother Rice Students Visit Wright-Patterson Air Force Base
Over the Christmas break, Brother Patrick Hayes and 27 Physics students went on a three-day field trip to Dayton, Ohio, to see the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The students toured the largest collection of planes in the world and saw everything from the early Wright Brothers’ planes to today’s modern stealth fighters and bombers. The students also visited one of the original Wright Brothers’ bicycle shops.
“It was amazing to stand right next to these planes and see how large they really are,” junior Connor Piper said. “What a fun experience to share with my friends. I can’t wait until the Florida trip.”
For the past 13 years, Brother Hayes has taken students to Cape Canaveral, Mammoth Caves, and Centennial Park in Atlanta and will continue that tradition this upcoming June.
