The Crusaders finished 2nd in the state regionals, hosted by Marist, by shooting a 360. Marist won with a 327. Stagg finished 3rd with a 370. The top 3 finishers advance to the state sectionals next Monday in Winnetka, sponsored by New Trier.
Will Saas led the way with an 84, Tyler Hayes a 92, Tom Witte a 90, Anthony Willner a 94, Tim Papiernik a 95, and David Roth a 100. We were a bit short-handed compared to Catholic League; Matt Pawlak is out with an injury, Ian McGinnis was unavailable, Will Saas just returned from a 4 day retreat in Florida, and Tom Witte has been nursing a strained back.
The three sophomores, Tim Papiernik, Anthony Willner, and David Roth, have been competitive with the varsity guys most of the season, but we’ll have to step up if we’re going to be competitive up north. A 340 score will be respectable for the sectional meet.
A golf banquet to celebrate the season is in the planning stages. We’ll need to pick a date soon. We’re thinking about some friendly competition on the course and a pizza party at Stony Creek.
