As part of the Brother Rice experience, student activities allow our students to identify their interests and pursue their passions. Below you will find a full list of extracurricular activities to join and get involved.
To live the Charism of our Founder, Blessed Edmund Rice, by identifying issues of the day in which people are made maginalized by poverty and injustice, and to discover the root causes of these probelems, raise awareness, and attempt to fix the root causes of marginalization.

The Art Club is dedicated to inspiring creativity and fostering a passion for visual arts among students. The club provides a collaborative space for exploring various art forms and techniques, including painting, drawing, and digital art. Members participate in workshops, group projects, art exhibitions, and field trips, encouraging personal expression and artistic growth while promoting an appreciation for the arts within the school.
Meeting Frequency: Once a week on Tuesday.

A student run reading club that reads multiple genre’s of Literature throughout the year and holds monthly discussion on each reading.

Brother Rice TV is a student-run broadcasting club featuring year-round coverage of Crusader athletics. BRTV members have unprecedented access to sidelines, coaches, and players throughout the season. Students will commentate, produce, and film broadcasts throughout Brother Rice’s campus and beyond. Our broadcasters will also design graphics, write scripts for the Crusader GameDay pregame show, special features, and “This Is Brother Rice TV” commercials. The goal for BRTV is to foster independence in students as they prepare for a career in broadcast journalism. Students work closely with one another to prepare, execute, and deliver world-class broadcasts live on YouTube.
Meeting Frequency: Students broadcast most home sporting events. All-group meetings take place prior to every sports season.

Whether you’ve never picked up a pawn before or play everyday, all are welcome to join the Brother Rice Chess Club to enjoy the game with fellow crusaders or improve their skills to compete for our Chess Team. Enjoy this international game of strategy and wills as Brother Rice takes on the Chicago Chess Conference!
Meeting Frequency: Practices are held on Mondays and Wednesdays with matches on Tuesday. October-February.

We provide a safe and fun environment for students of all writing levels to use their imaginations to create fiction, non-fiction, and poetry pieces. This is a space to share ideas, provide feedback and strengthen writing skills.

The Crusaders for Guadalupe Club aims to provide a space for students to come together to learn, celebrate, and honor the Virgin Mary of Guadalupe. We believe that through devotion, education, and service, we can make a lasting impact in our school community, honoring the traditions that have shaped us and passing them on to future generations. We invite all who are interested in deepening their faith and understanding of this sacred devotion to join us in this meaningful mission.

Crusaders for Inclusion is a Brother Rice organization that advocates for the inclusion of all students no matter their differences or disabilities. Members plan and participate in academic and extracurricular activities inside and outside of school promoting a welcoming environment for all students.

We aim to provide a quality summer camp experience to children from local parishes and grade schools in a way that allows campers to more fully realize their potential. We strive to develop leaders who will go out to serve the larger community using the skills Edmund Rice Camp has helped foster.

Compete Competitively in Esports gaming titles against other schools across Illinois and the Central Region states.

To promote an interest in the study of geography and its’ relationship to world affairs.

The guitar club is a vibrant community of students passionate about music and the art of playing the guitar. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced player, the club offers a supportive environment for everyone to learn, practice, and share their musical skills. Members have the opportunity to explore different guitar styles, from rock and pop to classical and blues, while also collaborating with fellow musicians.
Meeting Frequency: Typically every week on either Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on people’s availability.

Bring together students who are interested in investing within the financial marketplace.
Meeting Frequency: Every other Tuesday in Semester 2.

Work as a Marketing Intern for the school. Interns are allowed to focus on the area of marketing of their choosing. Photography, Videography, Graphic Design, or Analytics. Interns will be allowed to use school gear, ie. cameras/computers to learn hands on how to create engaging content for social media. Interns will receive a tuition stipend for their work, this means that spots are limited and there will be an application process starting fall 2025.
Meeting Frequency: One group meeting a month. Outside of that, infrequently centered around school events/home games.

The math team is a group of students that enjoys challenging themselves in the area of mathematics. Meetings improve skills needed to be successful at math competitions against neighboring high schools. Competitions include individual, team, calculator, and oral presentation.
Meeting Frequency: Meet at least one day a week from September to February. Meeting days vary.

Bonding through a mutual admiration of model trains, model railroading, engineering and layout design.
Meeting Frequency: Mondays with spill over to Wednesday.

The Edmund Rice Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) is an organization dedicated to recognizing and promoting excellence in our students. NHS focuses on four core pillars: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Membership is offered to students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, commitment to community service, strong leadership qualities, and ethical integrity.
Our chapter organizes and participates in activities that enhance our schools’ community. These include volunteer projects, leadership development initiatives, peer tutoring, and charitable drives. By upholding these principles, NHS provides students with opportunities to develop leadership skills, engage in meaningful service, and prepare for future academic and professional endeavors. Membership is both a mark of distinction and a call to continued excellence and service.

To provide outdoor recreational activity through the sport of paintball. Promote teamwork, strategy skills, and critical thinking.
Meeting Frequency: 4 to 5 times per year; usually twice in the Fall (September/October) and three times in the Spring (March/April/May). Weather permitting.

Peer Mediation is a structured step-by-step guide to conflict resolution. Students who have disagreements are paired with two Peer Mediators who look for solutions to solve the conflict. Students who exhibit trust and leadership apply and are identified by faculty members in order to be a Peer Mediator. Peer Mediators act as peacemakers for the school, respect all points of view, and help students to resolve their conflicts.
Meeting Frequency: Peer Mediators undergo a 6-week conflict resolution guidance. After that, Peer Mediators meet when a conflict comes up between students. There are check-ins throughout the year.

To discus the politics of the day, and to inform the students themselves, and each other as to the pressing political issues of the day.
Meeting Frequency: We try to meet every first and last Wednesday of each month.

We discuss topics in pop culture, anime, comics and everything else.
Meeting Frequency: Wednesday; if participation is lacking we do model train projects.

REDgen School is a peer to peer resilience program designed to educate and empower student leaders to raise resiliency within their school community through connection, reflection and conversation.
Meeting Frequency: REDgen meets biweekly on Mondays entire school year.

Robotics club explores all things robots, but our main focus is the MATE Underwater ROV Competition. A chunk of the team spends the entire year perfecting our competition Robot.

SADD empowers and mobilizes students and adult allies to engage in positive change through leadership and smart decision-making.

The Spanish Club aims to foster a deeper appreciation and understanding of Spanish language and culture among students. Through engaging activities such as conversational practice, cultural workshops, film screenings, cooking classes, holiday celebrations, and field trips, the club provides an inclusive and dynamic environment for students to enhance their language skills, explore diverse traditions, and build connections with Spanish-speaking communities locally and globally.

The Student Council at Brother Rice High School is a dynamic leadership organization that empowers students to represent their peers and foster school spirit. Members collaborate to plan events, promote inclusivity, and advocate for student needs, embodying the values of leadership and service. Through their dedication, the council plays a vital role in enriching the Brother Rice community and strengthening the Crusader brotherhood.
Meeting Frequency: Monthly meetings on the first Tuesday of each month. The Council also hosts numerous events throughout the school year.
