Last week, as Chicago lay dormant under a few feet of February snow, new Brother Rice High School head coach Tim Vaughan met with students on two separate afternoons to introduce himself and discuss local Evans Scholarship opportunities through the Ridge CC Caddie Program.
Wait… golf?
That’s right. What better time to dream of the links and talk about the next golf season, especially when you can throw in information about a Chick Evans scholarship and free college tuition? It seems like Coach Vaughan always keeps his mind on the game, even in record snowfall.
A member at Ridge CC for over thirty years, currently serving on the Board of Directors and heading up the caddie committee, Vaughan provided keen insight into the process, and it’s obvious he can’t wait to share his know-how and passion for the game with the Crusader Golf Team. With over 55 years of swings in his bag, including stints on the St. Francis High School (Wheaton) and Marquette University golf teams, he has much to offer young golfers of every skill level.
“I hope to have fun and invite more guys to get involved,” Vaughan says, adding that one of his goals is to start a Freshman team next fall. His other goals?
Well, Vaughan attended Catholic schools K-12 and through college at Marquette, so he appreciates the value of a Catholic education–and the rivalries that inherently come with it:
“Win Catholic League and beat Loyola, of course.”
The snow can’t melt fast enough.
Tryouts for Brother Rice’s Golf Team will take place early fall 2021. For more information about Crusader Golf and/or caddie opportunities, please contact Coach Tim Vaughan at tvaughan@brrice.org.
