Today we celebrate the feast of St. Giles

Let us remember that we are in the Holy presence of God

In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  AMEN

Father of all goodness, each day we discover anew the glory of your divine wisdom in the beauty of the earth and the opportunity to use our human gifts for your honor and glory. May these also be a sign of the unforeseen beauty and promise of your eternal kingdom.   […]

Return to School Information

2020-07-25T08:58:16-05:00

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

We are thrilled to be going back to school in August. Our faculty and staff have been working hard to be prepared when our students return. Brother Rice will be adapting a “50/50 Hybrid” format beginning Wednesday, August 19. This format provides our students the best opportunity to maintain social distancing throughout the school day.

Students will be divided into their House and will attend school every other day. The Brother Rice House System is set up to group students evenly into four different houses. Incoming freshmen will find out their house placement on the first day of orientation Tuesday, August […]

President Update: July 6

2020-07-25T08:58:57-05:00

Dear Crusader Families & Friends,

Like all of you, the normal rhythms and events associated with the transition from spring to summer are markedly different this year for Brother Rice High School.  We closed school on March 16, as a national pandemic spread and concluded the semester remotely.  We felt the impact of civil unrest across our country combined with a call to address racism and work toward social justice for all.  I am proud to say our school community has responded strongly and positively to our new environment!

Led by Mr. Bob Alberts, Principal, we are committed to returning students to classrooms […]

Principal Update

2020-07-25T08:57:39-05:00

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

I hope that you are having a great summer. Here at Brother Rice, we are preparing to open the new school year in the fall.  I want to assure you that we will do everything in our power to have all of our students on campus to start the year. We do not know what the future will hold, so we are preparing for four scenarios to open the school in the fall:

  • Scenario One– Normal school begins as usual.
    • This is our hope for the fall, and we are prepared for a normal start to school […]

A Letter to Our Crusader Community

2020-06-24T15:03:28-05:00

It has been both painful and shocking to watch the killing of George Floyd replayed countless times.  His death, combined with other recent killings of black individuals, highlight longstanding racial inequality in America.  Combined with the ensuing pain and violence across America that has erupted, it is a scary, fearful, and, yes, angry time for all of us.  As our own Cardinal Cupich has said, “if you’re not outraged, you’re not paying attention.”

The events of the last week have had a profound impact on our country, our city, and our Brother Rice community.  Our communities stand at a point where we […]

On Monday, June 1, a private service will be held to honor the life of our friend, teacher, and colleague, Bob Peters. The Brother Rice community and students are welcome to line the route in their Crusader clothing as Bob’s family leaves Becvar and Sons Funeral Home on their way to Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

We are asking the students and families that want to pay their respects to Bob Peters, to park at Palos Courts tomorrow morning at 10:15 a.m. and stand along the sidewalk on Ridgeland from 127th to route 83.  Please wear your crusader clothing. The funeral procession will pass […]

Alumni Men of the Year

2020-09-22T12:20:59-05:00

This year’s Alumni Men of the Year and Alumni Hall of Fame Inductees share a common belief about Brother Rice.  They all appreciate what Brother Rice has meant to them while they were students here, and as they pursued their different paths as grown men.  Their graduation years span 38 years, and each has expressed appreciation for his Brother Rice education for unique reasons and in a variety of ways.

Bill Waddell ’60 had two sons, Willie ’07 and Dan ’08, graduate from Brother Rice and he has been […]
