Today is the Feast of St. Hugo of Grenoble

Today is Holy Thursday

Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of God.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  AMEN

Loving Provider,
you gather me in this upper room with your son,
to be fed by your love.
At that supper, Jesus told us to “love one another”
and I know that is the heart of his gift,
his sacrifice for me.
I ask that I might find the source of my own heart,
the meaning for my own life,
in that Eucharist.
Guide me to the fullness of your […]

Brother Rice Taps Coach Tim Vaughan as New Head Golf Coach

2021-03-04T11:01:57-06:00

Last week, as Chicago lay dormant under a few feet of February snow, new Brother Rice High School head coach Tim Vaughan met with students on two separate afternoons to introduce himself and discuss local Evans Scholarship opportunities through the Ridge CC Caddie Program.

Wait… golf?

That’s right.  What better time to dream of the links and talk about the next golf season, especially when you can throw in information about a Chick Evans scholarship and free college tuition?  It seems like Coach Vaughan always keeps his mind on the game, even in record snowfall.

A […]

Hail Lyons Crusader Clan –  25 From Tom ’63 to Shane ’28

Brother Rice High School’s ability to help form young men of faith and to pass on the Catholic tradition in the name of Blessed Edmund Rice and the Christian Brothers flows from the heart of its mission.  The soul of the school is made up of thousands of current and former Crusaders who have called the hallowed halls at 99th and Pulaski home.  With almost two-thirds of a century worth of graduates, it is no surprise to see a number of Southside families who have proudly waved their […]

James E. O’Connor ’67: Challenging Beginnings Toward Becoming World’s Most Admired Garbage Man

2021-03-02T11:00:20-06:00

On January 28, 1970, Jim O’Connor ’67 was only 20 years old when he lost his dad.  He said he was “overwhelmed” that such a thing could happen.  In a highly publicized tragedy, Chicago Police Department Lieutenant James E O’Connor spared the life of an armed robber in an attempt to disarm the 20-year old gunman, who fired during the struggle and killed the 62-year old O’Connor.  Lieutenant O’Connor is remembered as “a hero in every aspect, not only because he spared a young man’s life, whom he could have shot and killed, but also by refusing […]

Brother Rice Senior Christopher Valles ‘21 Joins the Posse

In the summer of 2020, Brother Rice High School Director of Counseling Pat Creed looked over a laundry list of scholarships for which Crusader students would be eligible, a tedious but rewarding task he and the other counselors perform without fail every year.  Eventually, he came across the Posse Foundation Scholarship.  This nonprofit organization seeks out and recruits high school leaders who “might be missed by traditional admissions criteria but who can excel at selective colleges and universities.”

Matching the criteria to a list of qualified students, Creed noticed one […]

2021-02-08T14:58:03-06:00

Last week, our school hosted a dress-down day to help support the Navarro-Bustos Family in Lima, Peru. Our goal was to raise $2,600 to help them build a brand new home. Overall, we have raised over $3,900 and will be able to provide a new home for the Navarro-Bustos family very soon!

Along with the efforts made in raising money, students will also have the opportunity to be apart of a Peru Virtual Immersion. During our Virtual Immersion, our Crusaders will see first hand the reality of poverty in Lima, especially among the people and families that the […]

Today we celebrate the feast of St. Brigid of Ireland

Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of God.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  AMEN

God of all time and seasons, as winter drags on and the days are so dreary, we remember and hope for your holy light in our lives. Give us your grace to see that where there is love, we find you among us—your kingdom here and now. Forgive our failing to love, to […]
