The Brother Rice baseball team is rolling. The squad has not lost a game yet, going 13-0 in its first 13 games of the season. The team started Catholic League play this past week against St. Ignatius, Montini, and Marmion.

The Crusaders headed to St. Ignatius on Tuesday to face the wolfpack. The bats did not work as usual for the Crusaders, but stellar pitching from Junior Cole Van Assen kept St. Ignatius in check. Brother Rice kept on swinging and eventually put up five runs to beat St. Ignatius 5-1. Van Assen pitched a complete game, allowing only […]

Their team is full of top ranked guys committed to playing at the top colleges in the country and has two projected first-round draft picks in this upcoming draft. Their roster has more top ranked players than any other team in the country.

When we first heard we were playing IMG this season, it was a game that excited us. We had the chance to play the number 2 ranked team in the country. Getting a challenge like this is something we love.

The Standard: BR baseball dominates in Georgia, and I was there to record it all.

In early January, I was looking for the Director of Marketing Mike Glennon. I wanted to borrow his camera for a basketball game that night but he wasn’t in his office. I walked over to Room 100, a.k.a. the room with the giant green screen wall.

There I found Mr. Glennon doing a picture shoot for the baseball team. He needed me to finish taking the pictures because he was running late to his basketball practice. I stayed and finished the photoshoot, and that’s when varsity baseball coach, Coach McBride, mentioned playing against IMG Academy this spring.

“IMG Academy?” I […]

After months of uncertainty regarding high school sports seasons, basketball teams are now faced with more confusion about their future. Last week, Gov. J.B. Pritzker declared that basketball would be played in the spring after moving it from a medium to a high-risk sport. The IHSA, however, stated that basketball seasons would move forward as scheduled.

So which is it? Will basketball practices begin on Nov. 16, or will teams take a break after weeks of contact days?

The decision to play is now left in the hands of individual schools and conferences. The IHSA’s approval of a winter season […]
