This season has been filled with ups and downs for the Brother Rice lacrosse team as they had an inconsistent start to the year. However, this has not stopped the team from putting in maximum effort from practices and games day in and day out.

The Crusaders recently beat Providence Catholic on the road to stop the bleeding of a five game losing streak. The team has never stopped working and has kept a great culture in the locker room despite the struggles.

Brother Rice lacrosse has struggled to rack up many wins in the past few years. From 2023 to 2024, the Crusaders only won five total games. We are not even a full month into our 2025 schedule and that win total has already been matched.

My theory? New uniforms.

When I saw the new Nike jerseys for the first time, they caught my eye. The orange and white jerseys are nice and clean, definitely an upgrade from the past seasons.

The Standard: Crusader Lacrosse Wins Big Over Lincoln Park

On Saturday, April 5, the Brother Rice lacrosse team competed against Lincoln Park at home. The Crusaders walked away with a dominating 17-5 victory, pushing them to a 4-2 record. The 17 goals were the most Rice has had in six years.

Brother Rice went down 2-1 in the first quarter before going on a 16-3 run for the next three.

Junior Jack Singler, who helped lead the charge offensively, said, ‘It was a slow start for us, but I’m glad we were able to work together offensively and score as much as we did.”

On March 31, the Brother Rice Varsity lacrosse team moved along smoothly, beating Taft. The Crusaders came into this week at 2-1 and had a ton of confidence going into the game.

As the game started, senior Sean Hannon, a defenseman, demonstrated why he is one of the best in the state. He stopped many attacks and had multiple huge hits to keep Taft from scoring.

Brother Rice lacrosse hosted Homewood Flossmoor and Lake Park in hopes of getting in the win column.

After a tough loss to Oak Forest, Brother Rice lacrosse was out for blood. Looking to turn around the lacrosse program, luckily they had two home games to get the season going.

Senior Evan Wills said, “We were motivated to improve on the weaknesses we saw against Oak Forest. It was a hard loss, and we wanted to make sure we did not let it happen again. That is why seeing us improve and come out with some wins felt really good.”

On April 25, the Brother Rice Crusaders lacrosse team traveled to Marmion Academy to face the Cadets. The Crusaders looked to bounce back after a tough defeat vs DePaul Prep.

The Crusaders struck first by a goal from sophomore Jack Singler. Singler has been the Crusaders main goal scorer as a sophomore. He has taken big strides in his game going into his second varsity season.

The 2024 Brother Rice lacrosse season began March 18 at Homewood Flossmoor. This year’s team is full of young and old including four seniors, six returning starters, and a host of freshmen.

The season started with a tough test for the Crusaders vs the Vikings. After a rough first half, the Crusaders played much better in the second, but would still go on to lose 12-7. This game brought a lot of learning opportunities and some bright spots such as freshman Quinn Muldoon scoring four goals in his first game.

The Brother Rice Crusaders lacrosse season for 2024 kicked off on March 18 against Homewood Flossmoor. This new season brings a bunch of changes, starting with new head coach, Jacob Karmia. Coach Karmia, who was an assistant for last year’s team, is super pumped about this season and has big hopes for the team.

Brother Rice High School Names Danny Lawler New Head Lacrosse Coach

Brother Rice High School has announced Danny Lawler as the new head coach of its Lacrosse program. No stranger to the lacrosse scene on the southside, Lawler played at St. Rita before attending Bendictine University, where he played all four years, two as captain. As a defenseman, he helped the Eagles win the NACC conference championship in 2021. Lawler has also coached many different club programs, including 1223, True Lacrosse, and East Ave. After graduating from Benedictine, he helped coach at the university for a semester, and he currently coaches at Four Star Lacrosse and Beverly Lacrosse.
