Intramural tennis has started up at Brother Rice, and the sport is expanding throughout the school.

Tennis was not always a sport people played at Brother Rice, but the program is taking steps in the right direction. Coach Vogt, a teacher at Brother Rice, is the head coach for the tennis team and has really brought the sport to a new level.

Coach Vogt said, “When I took over, we had five players in the entire program. Last season, we had 14 players on the roster, and this year we’ve had over 20 attend intramurals.”

Tennis is soon coming to a high school near you! In this case it’s Brother Rice, but you know I wanted to try something promotional.

The Crusader tennis team has been on the rise over the last few years. Ever since the departure of longtime coach and teacher, Mr. Grogan, the Crusaders have been under a new regime. Led by coaches Mr. Rob Vogt and Mr. Brendan Coughlan, Crusader tennis looks better than ever.

Tennis Sweeps Mt. Carmel

The Brother Rice tennis team swept the Mt. Carmel Caravan 5-0 on the varsity and 3-0 on the frosh/soph teams on Tuesday, April 10. Jeremy Zemgulys won in straight sets – 6-2, 6-1; Grant Matern won in straight sets – 6-1, 6-4; and Connor Leibforth won in straight sets – 6-3, 7-6.

Ryan Kenny with Jack Aler won in straight sets – 6-2, 6-0, and Jimmy Maguire with Dan Golon won in straight sets – 6-0, 6-0.
