Internal Scholarship Opportunities

Listed below are all of the donor-funded scholarship opportunities available to the students of Brother Rice High School. Each of these scholarship opportunities has been made possible by the generous support of alumni, families and friends of Brother Rice High School.

All incoming students and returning students should complete the Scholarship Application, as they must be applied for annually.

Applications are due by January 7, 2022

Please note that scholarship opportunities marked with (*) require the submission of a SmartAid student aid application.  

  • Bill Hite Scholarship*: Sons of official union members are eligible to apply. Their family must demonstrate financial need.
  • Bonnema Scholarship*: Students who are from Oak Lawn, involved in the community, and have verified financial need are eligible to apply.
  • Brian Bulkley Memorial Scholarship: Students should have demonstrated success in the classroom and clear passion for Brother Rice High School
  • Brendan Murrihy Memorial Scholarship: Students from Most Holy Redeemer Parish are eligible. A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA must be achieved and participation in extracurricular activities is required.
  • Brother Jay Toole Scholarship*: Current students of families demonstrating financial hardship. Applicants must achieve a cumulative. 2.0 GPA and must have a record of community service.
  • Cleary Family Scholarship: Students that have been affected by the loss of a parent/guardian should apply
  • Crusader Award: Students who are leaders within their community are eligible to apply. Students should be in good standing at their grammar school and be contributing members of their community.
  • Derek L Wasilevich Memorial*: Students of families demonstrating financial need who attain a 2.5 minimum cumulative GPA and are involved in community service activities are eligible to apply.
  • Dorothy and James Parker Scholarship*: Students from Queen of Martyrs Parish are eligible if they attain a 2.0 cumulative GPA and demonstrate financial need.
  • Eddie Olczyk Courage Award: Students should have demonstrated financial need and demonstrated courage in their lives
  • Irish Fellowship*: Students with two great-grandparents from Ireland who have attained a 2.0 cumulative GPA and whose family demonstrates financial need are eligible to apply.
  • Gerald and Veronica Ferrick Scholarship*: Students of families demonstrating financial need who attain a 2.75 cumulative GPA are eligible to apply.
  • Haerther Scholarship*: Students who have a strong academic record, demonstrated leadership skills, and a commitment to service are eligible to apply. Applicants should have verified financial needs and plans to pursue a college education.
  • Huber Family Scholarship*: Students living in Evergreen Park or the surrounding area are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Financial need must be demonstrated.
  • Jacob Schmitz Memorial Scholarship: Sons of law enforcement officers are eligible to apply. Awardees will demonstrate high academic achievement.
  • Joan Heavey Scholarship*: The student must be a graduate of St. Catherine of Alexandria. Applicants must be in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need. Current sophomores or juniors are invited to apply.
  • Justin Antos Scholarship: Freshman band members with a 3.0 GPA at the end of their first semester are eligible to apply.
  • Marlene Chocola Memorial Scholarship*: Students with an appreciation for music or theater, achieving a 2.5 GPA, and whose families demonstrate financial need are eligible to apply.
  • Michael P. Madden Memorial Scholarship: for students from Evergreen Park; 2.5 GPA, and whose families demonstrate financial need are eligible to apply.
  • The Michael Sullivan Family Foundation – Senior year (current junior) student displaying excellence in mathematics. Student must have an unweighted GPA of 3.67 or higher. Enrolled in honors, A/P or other accelerated mathematics course. Have B or higher in all Brother Rice mathematics classes. Dean of Student Life will send further application requirements to qualifying candidates.
  • MOMS (Mustari/Orlando) Memorial Scholarship*: Students of families demonstrating financial need who attain a 2.5 cumulative GPA and offer community service hours over and above those required are eligible to apply.
  • Nancy Kalata Memorial: Junior and Senior-year honor students with a track record of community service are eligible to apply.
  • Otstott Family Scholarship: 2.5 GPA with demonstrated financial need
  • Paul Gudonis ’72 Door of Opportunity Scholarship*: Applicants must be goal-oriented and driven young men. Applicants should be well-round and achieve in the classroom and in the community. Financial need is required.
  • Ray O’Hare ‘84 Scholarship: Students should have demonstrated success in the classroom, in activities, and in service to the community.
  • Richard Timothy Unsworth Memorial Scholarship*: Students must have a 3.0 GPA at BR; demonstrated financial need
  • Steffek Family Scholarship: 2.5 GPA, Demonstrated financial need
  • St. Germaine Scholarship: Students or their parents must be graduates of St. Germaine to apply for this scholarship. Applicants must maintain a 2.5 GPA and complete community service hour requirements.
  • Thomas Wortham Memorial Scholarship: Sons of Chicago Police Officers are eligible to apply.
  • Tom Mikrut Scholarship*: Available to parishioners of St. Catherine of Alexandria, recipients will need to perform double the amount of community service hours required of Brother Rice students.
  • Tony “Chief” Hanrahan Scholarship*: Students of families demonstrating financial need, who attain a 3.0 minimum cumulative GPA and are focused on academic achievement, are eligible to apply.
  • Trinity Scholarship*: Students of families demonstrating financial need, who attain a 2.0 minimum GPA, are involved in extracurricular activities and complete 25 hours of community service are eligible to apply.
  • Wakerly Foundation Scholarship*: Students who have demonstrated a commitment to their academic performance, are actively involved in the school community, and have verified financial needs are eligible to apply.
