This season has been filled with ups and downs for the Brother Rice lacrosse team as they had an inconsistent start to the year. However, this has not stopped the team from putting in maximum effort from practices and games day in and day out.

The Crusaders recently beat Providence Catholic on the road to stop the bleeding of a five game losing streak. The team has never stopped working and has kept a great culture in the locker room despite the struggles.

On Saturday, March 21,  the Brother Rice basketball program banquet was held at Barracos. This was a great opportunity to look back on the success the program had this year. The freshman A team had an outstanding season, winning the Chicago Catholic League.

I have had the pleasure of being a manager for the Brother Rice Basketball Program for all four years. Sophomore year, I reached out to Coach Stamas regarding the manager spot opening. He then sat me down for a meeting and I was sold instantly. I was the only sophomore on the varsity team, which was different and extremely cool. On Thursday, Jan 22, 2026, Brother Rice held our annual Founder’s Day. Founder´s Day is a day where we celebrate and honor the legacy of Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice.

Every year, Brother Rice invites a guest speaker to inform the student body how important this day is. Vice President Greg Nye ‘90 spoke to the student body about the Brotherhood, the expectations, and the culture that Brother Rice has to offer.

At 2:56 p.m. on Wednesday, the boys and I pulled into the parking lot of Huskie Stadium ready to watch the Crusaders run down the Mustangs. I was wearing five layers of clothes and still felt the cold.

The Crusaders showed no signs of slowing down after a dominant 42-18 win over St. Charles North on Saturday, Nov. 5. The win marked another very strong performance for the team gaining even more momentum as they advanced to the final four in the IHSA Playoffs.

On Friday, October 17, the Brother Rice Crusaders rolled past St. Laurence in a dominant 48-6 victory, improving their record to 7-1 and maintaining momentum heading into the final week of the regular season.

The Crusaders entered the game focused and determined to extend their winning streak. Senior Joe Kwilose said the team’s recent success has only strengthened their drive. “I think the team has been great building off the success we’ve had so far, which is helping us continue to win,” said Kwilose.

The Standard: BRTV takes over the South Side

Brother Rice TV has given Crusader fans a new way to experience gameday. It is the only completely student-run club at Brother Rice, and its members handle everything from working the cameras, to producing and commentating at sporting events.

While fans often just hear the commentary, there are a number of about six Crusaders working behind the scenes making sure the broadcast looks professional.

Several Brother Rice alumni have taken what they learned in BRTV to the next level. Aiden O’Connor ‘21 recently landed a job with ESPN Radio, fulfilling a dream he first discovered in high school.
