Tiger Woods returned to the Masters following a catastrophic vehicle accident in December of 2021. That accident left him with multiple injuries and required emergency surgery. However, Woods was able to return to the golf course after undergoing rehabilitation. Woods shocked the golf world by participating in a tournament with his kid only ten months after the accident occurred.

The Standard: The Polar Plunge

The Polar Plunge is one of the largest fundraisers for the United States Special Olympics team. Thousands of people flood over to major bodies of water across the country to take a dive into the icy water.

Every year Brother Rice teams up with Mother McAuley in the Illinois Polar Plunge on Lake Michigan. Fifty participants took part in raising a total of $15,000 for the Special Olympics and various special children’s charities between the two schools. Overall the event raised $1.8 million dollars.

Every year, hundreds of people commit suicide throughout the world, with many of them being teens or young adults. Recently, Illinois has seen an increase in the number of adolescent suicides.

West of Chicago, Providence Catholic High School recently suffered the loss of one of its top athletes, Ryan Jefferson. Ryan was a well-liked young man who played baseball for the Cangelosi Sparks, a well-known baseball club, and had committed to play at the University of Illinois. The Standard: Brother Rice Soccer’s Young Team

Over the past few years, the Brother Rice soccer program has been searching for talent to make Brother Rice a soccer powerhouse again. After dominating the Catholic League, superstar Jack Finnegan graduated to Wisconsin; after this, Crusader soccer struggled in one area or another, but seem to have found their groove at last.

This year, the Brother Rice starting lineup consists of two seniors. This is the lowest quantity of seniors starting in a very long time. The team is young, playing five to six freshmen at the varsity level.
