On Friday, Apr. 3, the Chicago White Sox played the Toronto Blue Jays at home, and I got to witness it in person with my dad and my best friends.

On Friday, March 13, 2026, Brother Rice hosted their annual College Information Day for Juniors. Students met in the South Gym at 8:00 a.m. to pick up their schedules and be split into groups.

The Standard: Crusaders of the Rosary

On Thursday, Feb. 10, Brother Rice High School hosted their monthly Crusaders of the Rosary. All students are welcome, and rosaries were provided.

Senior Eddie Chibe said, “This was my first time coming to Crusaders of the Rosary… I had some time to kill and I actually really enjoyed it… this is something I am going to keep doing especially with the Lenten season right around the corner.”

This is the perfect time to grow closer to God. Many students take advantage of this. Students do not need to know how to pray the rosary to participate.

The Standard: Brother Rice Hockey Senior Night

Brother Rice Hockey took on Providence Catholic on Saturday, Jan. 24, to celebrate the seniors on their Senior Night.

The Crusaders had a rough first period, letting up three goals. At the end of the first period, Brother Rice was down 3-0.

In the second period, the Crusaders came out strong with a 2-on-1 goal from Jack Gaskin assisted by James Esposito. Later in the second period, Jake Beck netted a backhand goal, making the score 3-2.

The Crusaders fought a hard third period, fighting for another goal to tie the game.

The second I stepped off the fan bus, I knew it was going to be a cold night. However, I wasn’t even thinking about the cold; I was thinking about the game. There was a sense of comfort in the air as my fellow Crusaders and I ran from the bus to the gates. 

As we started to approach the gates, we rushed inside, running in the halls to get to the student section. Seeing a bunch of guys dressed up in Santa hats and elf costumes was such an amazing memory.

On Monday, Nov. 3, Brother Rice hosted its second open house of the year. More than 100 families from all around the area came to visit and see for themselves what Brother Rice is all about.

Luke Makuch, an eighth grader at Jerling Junior High, “I really liked how they treated us. I had a great experience…I loved the broadcasting and I loved the brotherhood even more.”

On Monday, Oct. 13, Brother Rice hosted their annual Columbus Day Shadow Day. We had the pleasure of hosting 107 shadows who spent their day off experiencing life at Brother Rice. 

Recruiting Coordinator Jack Zampillo said, ¨I think it’s always really cool when a student decides to spend their day off school with us, especially for a shadow day when kids are able to come and get such a fulfilling experience with our students and staff.¨

The Standard: 2025-2026 Best of Both Worlds Bags Tournament

On Wednesday, Sept. 10, Brother Rice hosted the annual Best Of Both Worlds Bags Tournament. Students from Brother Rice and Mother McAuley flooded the football field, ready to compete.

There were over 60 registered teams for this year’s tournament, which began with group stage play, with winners advancing to a single elimination bracket.
