On Thursday, Apr. 16, National Science Honors Society hosted a competition in which students built devices to try and keep an egg safe. After school, four groups of students came together and strategized on how they can keep an egg safe from a long fall.

Senior Vincent Walker, who is the NSHS president, said, “We gathered people to this event to see who can use their knowledge to keep their eggs safe.”

On Saturday, Mar. 28, Brother Rice is hosting its annual Mother and Son Mass and Dance. Students and their moms are invited to come join in on a day of fun with each other. The theme for this year’s dance is derby hats and it will include a DJ, dinner, and professional photography.

Ms. Alvarez, who organizes the event, said, “It’s a special event that creates great memories for all the mothers and sons who attend.”

On Tuesday, Feb. 3, the Art Club hosted an event where students could come in and create their own Valentines for anyone they wanted to. Students from both the Spanish and Art Clubs were invited by Mrs. Carbol, with many students coming in and making some cards.

Doña provided paper, stickers, glue and scissors for the card making and let students take their own spin on making a Valentine’s Day card. Many people dedicated their cards to the loved ones in their life.

On Thursday, Oct. 30, the Mount Sion program held their first annual Halloween party after school in the library. To start off the party, everyone collected materials and old shoe boxes to decorate them in a Halloween theme.

Senior Ben Miller said, “It was a lot of fun decorating and creating a theme for the shoe box I made with my partner.” This activity was also a competition to see who could decorate their box the best.

This school year, Brother Rice is introducing a new club called the National English Honors Society, which is open to students who maintain a 3.0 GPA in English.  The club looks to promote literacy and provide service while honoring English activities and related subjects.

The club had their first meeting on Sept. 12, where students could fill out a form to join the club. Senior Mitch Rascop said, “I wanted to join because of my appreciation for English class, and I wanted to spread it throughout the community.”
