As my time at Brother Rice comes to a close, I have begun to reflect on my four years of high school here. As I first walked into the halls as a freshman, I had no idea what to expect for myself during my time as a Crusader. Now as a senior moving on to my next chapter in life, I can say I have learned a lot from my time here. The Standard: Crusader Lacrosse Wins Big Over Lincoln Park

On Saturday, April 5, the Brother Rice lacrosse team competed against Lincoln Park at home. The Crusaders walked away with a dominating 17-5 victory, pushing them to a 4-2 record. The 17 goals were the most Rice has had in six years.

Brother Rice went down 2-1 in the first quarter before going on a 16-3 run for the next three.

Junior Jack Singler, who helped lead the charge offensively, said, ‘It was a slow start for us, but I’m glad we were able to work together offensively and score as much as we did.”

The Standard: Crusader Volleyball Celebrates World Down Syndrome Day

On Thursday, March 27, the Brother Rice volleyball team took on Evergreen Park in a game dedicated to World Down Syndrome Day. The goal was to raise funds for the PALS organization and included fans wearing yellow and blue.

The gym was packed with students and faculty showing support. Over $600 was raised just from this game alone.

Senior Carter Mosel said, “Volleyball has always been meaningful to me. The game motivated me and the team because we were playing for an important cause and we wanted to do all we could to help it.”

The Standard: Crusaders Dive in for Polar Plunge

On Sunday, March 2, a group of Crusader students participated in the annual Polar Plunge. The fundraiser involves volunteers jumping into Lake Michigan as they raise awareness and money for the Special Olympics.

Every year willing participants from Brother Rice jump in the frigid Lake Michigan water. This year, students felt even more invested with the addition of thse new Mount Sion Program.

On Saturday, Jan. 25, the Crusader hockey team played a highly anticipated game against the Loyola Ramblers. With it being Loyola’s senior night and the Ramblers being ranked third in the state, stakes were high for the Crusaders.

Many people envision their Thanksgiving full of eating and relaxing, but that is not the case for a group of boys from Crestwood and Beverly. To this group, Thanksgiving means something different – it means the Turkey Bowl.

Each year, a group of boys from Linder Court in Crestwood, who call themselves the “Linder Legends,” have an annual turkey bowl game between the kids on the block. The Standard: Crusader Soccer Off to Hot Start in the Playoffs

On Monday, Oct. 21, the Brother Rice soccer team kicked off their postseason with a game against the Agricultural Science Cyclones. The Crusaders took home the win with a final score of 9-0. A wide variety of Crusaders found the back of the net.

Due to the strong lead, many underclassmen and inexperienced players were given the opportunity to compete in a varsity playoff game.

Senior captain Angelo Piech said, “The most exciting moment from our first game was being able to see all my teammates that don’t usually play get a chance to close out the game for us.”

The Standard: Knights of Columbus “Tootsie Roll Drive”

On Sept. 20, Brother Rice student volunteers gathered to collect donations for the Knights of Columbus community program, a Catholic service organization created to help the less fortunate.

Brother Rice students participated in the “Tootsie Roll” fund drive which specifically went to individuals with intellectual disabilities. After each donation, students offered a Tootsie Roll as a gift for their generosity.
