Senior year has been my favorite year. It started with an unbelievable football season. I made so many new friends that I will have forever. Our team was inseparable, so we did many things together. This included practice, weight workouts, games, and social events. Even though we did have a few setbacks, it made the team stronger because we overcame it together.

One of the worst days of my high school career was losing against Wheaton North in the semi-finals. Everyone couldn’t believe the season was over. After the loss, we had one last get-together as a team which […]

On Friday, Mar. 25, Brother Rice hosted their 28th Career Day. The day is a great opportunity for alumni and current Crusaders to connect.

Alumni that are in industries from all over the world came into school to talk with our students about their careers. There were over 80 alumni that presented to our Crusaders, starting from the Class of 1961 all the way to the Class of 2010.

That alone says a lot about the Brother Rice community and how much we all really care for each other. Class of 1961 David Dillion also related to that when he […]

Monday, Feb. 21, was an eventful day at 99th and Pulaski. Brother Rice hosted a 7th grade shadow day. The young students were lucky to experience a day in the shoes of a Crusader.

They walked the halls, learned in the classrooms, played games after school, and also attended the pep rally. The shadows also received a free Brother Rice cafeteria lunch.

Matt Cleary, a shadow from St. Germaine said, ¨I have heard about how good the cookies were and they definitely lived up to the expectations.¨

Another event on Monday was the school wide pep rally. The pep rally was […]

The Mount Greenwood basketball league is a pick up league for high schoolers. There are ten teams and no high school basketball players on a team are allowed to play. It is a 4 v 4 with 15 minute halves and one referee. Each team pays $75 at the beginning of the season and has a chance to win $500. Each team plays each other once, followed by three rounds of playoffs. Only 8 out of the 10 teams make the playoffs.

My team name is “Ice.” We are currently 4-1 coming off a rough loss to our rivals. […]

This year is the Fifth Annual Fear the Beard Fundraiser at Brother Rice. Fear the Beard is a fundraiser for the Andrew Weishar Foundation, fighting against pediatric cancer.

Students and faculty who participate will not have to shave their beards from November 8th to December 3. In order to participate students and faculty must donate $50 beforehand. The goal this year is to have at least 100 people participate, which would raise $5,000. Rolando Sepulveda, who is participating in this year’s Fear the Beard said, “I believe we will be able to reach the $5000 goal.”

Brother Rice is starting a new club this year called the Esports club. Right now there are around 12-14 students in the club and they plan on recruiting many more. The members in this club play various games on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school.

Mateo Zarate, a member in the club, said, “We are focusing mainly on Rocket League and League of Legends as of right now until we grow the program.” The Esports club wants to build its program a lot.

Mateo said, “The future for right now is just getting more members. Eventually we’ll start playing other games […]
