It’s crazy to think that this year is over. It feels like yesterday that I was starting summer football camp as a freshman.

As time flies, you don’t realize the moments and memories that you create. From rivalry games to messing around at practice with your friends, these memories are ones I will never forget and will forever cherish.

I am forever grateful for the friends I created because of football, the friendships I shared and the memories after games. The team was like a community. We learned to love each other and grew as a family.

The Standard: Brother Rice Rugby Takes Down Neuqua Valley

Last Thursday, the Crusaders took on the undefeated Neuqua Valley Wildcats at home.

The Crusaders beat the Wildcats 26-18 in a hard fought battle. Tries were scored by Rolando Sepulveda, Henry Ivers, Carter McAlilly, and Jack Mallon. Jack Welniak had a great day on the tee, going 3 for 4 on the extra points.

Mallon and Ivers both had break through runs which gave the Crusaders a big advantage in the first half. However, the Wildcats capitalized their performance with two quick tries near the end of the first half.

Tom Brady officially announced his retirement in the beginning of February. Brady is already the oldest quarterback to play the game, but his retirement was no surprise to all. Brady is 44 years old and has played a total of 22 seasons in the NFL. The toll football takes on one’s body is no joke. Hits, falls, and emotions could mentally and physically harm a man for the rest of his life.

The Standard: Southside Game of the Week: Brother Rice Crusaders vs. St. Rita Mustangs

On Tuesday, the Crusader basketball team traveled to St. Rita to face off in a CCL matchup. The highly anticipated game brought a packed house to St. Rita. The matchup was broadcasted on WCIU as the game of the week.

Because of the amount of fans present, our Crusader Crazies had to cheer on from the baseline. While St. Rita expected a huge turnout for the game, they did little to nothing to accommodate the visiting fans.

The Standard: Brother Rice Wrestling Starts Strong at the Harvest Classic

The Crusader wrestling team started the season off strong in the first two meets. The Crusaders hosted Tinley Park and Manteno on Tuesday, Nov. 23. The Crusaders swept the competition as the varsity team started the season off 2-0. The next day they faced St. Laurence and Mt. Carmel at home. The Crusaders beat St. Laurence, but fell short to the Caravan.

This past weekend, the Crusaders faced off in their first tournament in two years. The varsity wrestling team participated in the annual Harvest Classic at Lake Central High School in Saint John, Indiana.

The Standard: Brother Rice Football Hosts its Playoff Seeding Dinner

This has been a huge weekend for Crusader football. Friday night, the Crusaders took on the Marist Redhawks at 115th St. The Crusaders were down 14-0 when they took control of the game. The Crusaders scored 40 unanswered points until the Redhawks finally scored in the 4th quarter. The Crusaders won the game with a final score of 40-21.

The game at Marist ended the regular season for the Crusaders. They finished with a record of 7-2and were 2-1 in the CCL Blue.
