I could not wait to leave. I could not believe I had another year at Brother Rice. All I wanted to do was leave and get to college. I wish I could go back and tell myself differently. My senior year was, hands down, the best year of my life.

My summer going into senior year was straight football. Waking up at 5 in the morning and heading to Brother Rice for summer football practice, day after day, probably seems dreadful for many. While some days were harder than others, I can genuinely look back and say that those […]

During Brother Rice’s spring break, a group of students and faculty members went on a mission trip to Peru. With Mr. Alberts and Mr. Michniak leading the group of young men, the group built a house for a family in need. Through humid heat and abnormal living conditions, the group prevailed and provided for the less fortunate.

When the group first arrived, they were hit with a culture shock. Seeing how another country operated came as a surprise to many of the guys. The first couple of days the group was able to get comfortable with the conditions and […]

By Jack Morrison ‘23

In 2019, the talk of Brother Rice getting a new baseball field began. There was much interest surrounding the subject, but other issues around campus had to be tended to first. The north campus parking lot was in desperate need of a makeover. Attention shifted from redoing the baseball field to the makeover of the parking lot.

The parking lot plan was underway and the baseball field talks started up again. Then, Covid-19 hit and halted everything.

“Right before covid hit I heard talks of the baseball field being redone. But since then I haven’t heard much about it. I […]

This year, Brother Rice introduced a new basketball league for students to join. Thanks to Mr. Jack Zampillo and Mr. Greg Nye set up the league. The season was full of ups and downs, but in the end it was always Team Ivers.

Sixteen teams participated in the league. Many of the teams were grammar school friends or other sports teams at Rice. The rules of the league were to call your own fouls, all baskets count as one point, and two twenty minute halves.

The regular season was full of many surprises. Team Faculty took the league by surprise […]

Almost fully healthy and ready to go for sectionals, Bobby had something to prove. Going into sectionals, Bobby was an underdog, but he knew what he was capable of. Bobby had a gritty performance and battled to earn 1st […]

The Crusader freshman football team traveled to Wilmette for a CCL Blue matchup, where they won 21-0 against Loyola Academy.

The first quarter was a defensive battle between the two teams. Although the Crusader’s offense struggled to get things going, their defense was impressive. Freshman safety Michael Fitzgerald had an interception, which gave the Crusaders momentum going into the second quarter.

Fitzgerald said, “My defender tripped right in front of me, and I made a play on the ball. All week long we knew turnovers were going to be a big part of the game, so getting the interception was […]
