I still remember at the college fair last fall, one of the college tables had asked me, “Do you have senioritis yet?” with a laugh. My response was, “No…….., not yet,” with a laugh. I added the “not yet” in an attempt to not sound like I’m a super mature senior. I know I am still a kid at heart, still I knew I couldn’t get lazy towards the end of high school.

Deep down, I wanted this year to be a special one for me. I just didn’t know how I’d make that happen.

As I […]

The Standard: BR baseball dominates in Georgia, and I was there to record it all.

In early January, I was looking for the Director of Marketing Mike Glennon. I wanted to borrow his camera for a basketball game that night but he wasn’t in his office. I walked over to Room 100, a.k.a. the room with the giant green screen wall.

There I found Mr. Glennon doing a picture shoot for the baseball team. He needed me to finish taking the pictures because he was running late to his basketball practice. I stayed and finished the photoshoot, and that’s when varsity baseball coach, Coach McBride, mentioned playing against IMG Academy this spring.

“IMG Academy?” I […]

In 2021, Brother Rice’s JV and varsity lacrosse team had an excellent season. The group quickly exceeded expectations anyone had for them, including 1st year head coach Thomas Haggerty.

“The seniors raised the maturity levels of the younger players,” said Haggerty about the young 2021 team. “What I am incredibly proud of the team is that we did not have a single penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. Our character told other teams who we were, and we weren’t going to be like them or play like them.”

The Crusaders made it to the IHSA playoffs and won their first round matchup […]

The Standard: Brother Rice Defeats Yorkville to Advance to State Quarterfinals

People were doubting Brother Rice after their close first round game vs Wheaton Warrenville South. Khary Shaw made the game saving play to secure the close win 27-26, it was nonetheless a scare for a team deemed by many the “title contender” in Class 7A.

Going into their road matchup against Yorkville in the second round, the Crusaders silenced the critics with a 45-7 victory. The Crusaders rushed past the Foxes behind aenior Aaron Vaughn’s three rushing touchdowns as well as Jack Lausch’s two rushing touchdowns.

Jack Lausch also found a wide open Da’Kobie Wordlaw II in front of the […]
