The Standard: Super Bowl LVIII

By James Zygadlo ‘24

On Feb. 11, the Kansas City Chiefs took on the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium. Millions of fans tuned in to watch the biggest game of the season. With that came many different predictions about who would win the trophy.

Senior Charlie Boyer said, “I wanted the 49ers to win, but had a bad feeling the Chiefs would come out ahead. It’s hard to bet against the Chiefs with Mahomes as their quarterback.”

The first half of the game started off slow with Jauan Jennings throwing the only touchdown to Christian McCaffrey to give the […]

The Standard: Brother Rice vs. Marist Wrestling

On Thursday, Jan. 11, the Crusaders took on the Redhawks in what would be one of the most anticipated matches of the season. Every year, people and students from around the area gather together to watch one of the most heated rivalries on the south side. Even with many injuries, the Crusaders would have to battle in one of their toughest matches yet.

Senior Mac Murzyn said, “Injuries definitely impacted our team in a big way. If we have a full and healthy team, we can compete with some of the best teams in the state. Going forward, we […]

Ronan Culkin said, “As a eucharistic minister myself, I thought it was great being able to connect with God and the students by distributing Communion.”

Father Mark read a gospel story that talked about John saving the servants of God from angels who were going to damage the […]

The Standard: BR Football vs. Nazareth Academy

The Crusaders battled against the reigning 5A state champions last Friday. The fate of the Roadrunners playoff hopes depended on winning this game. Little did they know, it would be one of the hardest 48-minute battles they would fight.

Senior Charlie Boyer said, “We had a good week of practice and thought we were well prepared. I was very confident we would come out with a W.”

The Crusaders’ preparation paid off for them early in the game. On the fifth play, Nazareth junior Logan Malachuk threw a pass that was called back for intentional grounding in the end zone, […]

The Standard: The Same Old Team

By James Zygadlo ‘24

Over the weekend, the Bears lost to the Packers 38-20 in the season opener at Soldier Field. I know many other Bears fans and I are disappointed. Year after year, we are hoping for the Bears to beat the Packers, but they continue to disappoint.

Things looked promising for the Bears after quarterback Justin Fields started out the game by throwing a short pass to running back Khalil Herbert for a 19-yard gain. After that, they couldn’t get much going. They attempted to run the ball on fourth-and-1 and got stopped, which eventually led to a Packers touchdown.

I know […]
