The Standard: Career Day

By Leo Niksic ‘24

It was a great day at Brother Rice on March 22. There were 50+ alums who came out for Career Day, either in person or online.

Many of the Rice students were interested in various career options from those that don’t need a college degree, like joining the pipefitters union or the military, to others that require more schooling, such as becoming a pilot for an airline, a cardiac surgeon, or a lawyer.

Senior Joquan Turner said, “Career Day is one of my favorite days at school because I still don’t know what I’m doing after graduation, so to see […]

The Standard: Road to state

By Leo Niksic ‘24

The Brother Rice basketball team started their road to state on Wednesday, Feb. 21, with a regional semi-final matchup against the Tinley Park Titans. The Crusaders came into this game 28-3 and were one of the top teams in the state. However, they were without star point guard Cale Cosme, who was out with flu-like symptoms for this game.

It didn’t matter for the Crusaders. They handled business right away. Jumping out to a big lead in the first couple minutes of the game, senior Zavier Fitch and junior Caden Workman kept showing why they are the two best […]

As the season is rolling along, the Brother Rice Hockey team is off to a shaky start; they are 3-8 and 5th in their conference. They hope to get back on track with a win on Sunday, Dec 3rd, against a big conference rival, St. Rita.

The team is led by their captain, Jack Keaty. He is a fabulous player and is a threat every time he touches the puck. Alongside Keaty are his three alternate captains, sophomore James Esposito, junior Nathan Wilczak, and senior Tommy Witt, who are all playmakers and have great vision on the ice.

Rice still […]

The Standard: The Final Crusade

By Leo Niksic ‘24

The Crusaders entered their final game with their playoff hopes on the line as the (4-4) Brother Rice Crusaders took on the (5-3) St. Rita Mustangs. On this particular game it was “Dad’s Day” and the fathers/grandfathers went to chapel with the team.  As the fathers stood next to the players while the National Anthem was sung, the team could feel the energy in the air. In this CCL Blue matchup, it was a packed house at Tom Mitchell Field, and the Crusader Crazies were getting rowdy as kickoff was underway.

St. Rita deferred, so the Crusaders got the […]
