Senior year has come and gone and it has been an emotional rollercoaster. I was excited to graduate, but at the same time, scared and sad to leave everything I have worked for over the past four years. My senior year was without a doubt, the most memorable, interesting, and stressful nine months of my life.

As the baseball season progresses, conference matchups become more and more intense.

On Tuesday, April 23, the Crusaders took on the Loyola Ramblers in a CCL duel. After a disappointing loss to St. Rita, this was a must win game for the Crusaders.

Senior Casey Giemzik took the mound, who has been having an impressive season. He finished his afternoon with seven innings pitched, five shutout innings, and only two earned runs.

The Standard: St. Cajetan Parish Strengthening the Faith Through the Stations of the Cross

St. Cajetan Parish has been inviting all members of the community to embark on a journey during the Lenten season. At 1 p.m. every Friday, people can attend the stations of the cross, which helps bring them closer to God and their faith.

Colette Gurin, one of the parish directors, has been in charge of running the stations of the cross for many years.

Colette said, “It brings me deeper in my faith and closer to God.”

On Friday, Feb. 16, the Brother Rice wrestling team beat Mahomet Seymour in the quarter finals of the IHSA Team State Tournament with a score of 36-27. This was the first time the Brother Rice wrestling team has ever advanced to the semifinals, which solidified them as a top four team in state for class 2A.

The Standard: Crusader Wrestling Wins Regionals for the Fourth Year in a Row

Last Saturday, the Brother Rice wrestling team traveled to Evergreen Park High School for the first round of the IHSA wrestling tournament.

The Crusaders scored 238 team points and secured a spot for team sectionals later in the season.

Junior James Crane said, “The team is going into sectionals feeling confident but also level headed. Our team goal is to beat nine state qualifiers.”

Thirteen Crusaders placed top three and secured a spot in sectionals. Major help came from Oliver Davis, Frank Micelli, Patrick Gilhooly, Colin Goggin, Daniel Costello, and James Crane who all took first place.

On Nov. 20, Mr. Dolan took members of the Brother Rice Advocacy Club to Mount Olivet Cemetery. Members went to show gratitude and condolences towards the remains of the indigent people.

It was rainy and cold, but that did not stop people from showing up. There were more than 100 people in attendance. Members of the Advocacy Club helped bring out caskets and lower them into graves.

Many members of the club shared their thoughts on the ceremony.

On Oct. 19, the Crusader freshman football team took on the St. Rita Mustangs for the Chicago Catholic League Blue title. Both teams going into the game undefeated; this was a must watch, highly anticipated game.

The team had a great week of practice, going hard every day because they knew what was at stake.

On Saturday, Sept. 30, the Crusader freshman football team had a CCL matchup at home against the Mount Carmel Caravan. The Crusaders entered the game undefeated, and the Caravan entered the game 5-1.

Quarterback Rocco Galasso had a big game, leading the Crusader offense with an opening drive touchdown. Galasso finished the morning going 11 out of 13 with 189 yards, and two passing touchdowns. He also rushed for 62 yards.
