March Madness has always been a fan favorite. It is known to be one of the most popular sporting events in the world. People around the globe fill out their brackets in hopes of being the first to fulfill it perfectly. To this day, there has never been a perfect bracket.

Brother Rice graduate Tony Michalek ‘78 came back to speak to the Sports Officiating class this past month. It was a great opportunity for us students to learn from the highest levels of a referee.

Mr. Michalek started just how any other person would, refereeing grade school games. After that, it was a slow progression. He made his way to high school, then college, and eventually the pros. He was very passionate about being a ref and he never looked back.

Former Brother Rice basketball star, Ahmad Henderson, has returned home to play at the University of Illinois Chicago. He previously attended Niagara University for his freshman campaign.

Ahmad had a very impressive freshman season for the Purple Eagles. He ended the year averaging 11.2 points, 1.9 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game. As a result, Ahmad was named to the All-Rookie Team for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. However, the opportunity to come back home was something he could not pass up on.

Ms. Becky Pacetti was awarded the Teacher of the Month Award for the month of October. She is the first to do so this year. Brother Rice is full of talented teachers that are worthy of this award, but Ms. Pacetti has been at the top of the list.

Ms. Madelynn Bolster has been welcomed by the Brother Rice community as she joined the staff this past fall. Although she is a “new” teacher, Ms. Bolster has always been around the Crusaders.

Ms. Bolster said, “I chose to teach at Brother Rice because I attended Queen of Martyrs, Mother McAuley, and Saint Xavier University, so coming to teach at BR has been somewhat of a homecoming for me!”
