I’ve always been told four years of high school would go by in the blink of an eye, but I never fully realized the truth in that until now.

It felt like yesterday I pulled a maroon and orange shirt out of a bag to announce where I was going to high school, and well, now, I’m ready to graduate.

That first day I was told to “get involved,” […]

Finally, in a break of cold weather and in the relief of warm weather, the Ultimate Frisbee team made it’s second semester debut for their first practices of 2021.

The club first started as a Kairos gimmick in September, but over the course of the school year has grown to be one of the most popular student activities at Rice, and the team couldn’t be more excited to be back in action.

Mr. Zielinski, one of the club moderators and coaches, said, “The return of warm weather this spring only meant one thing…the return of Ultimate Frisbee, and Ms. Sullivan […]

Chicago’s Saint Patrick’s Day traditions are usually filled with parades, green rivers, and communal gatherings; however, due to COVID, for the second year in a row, Saint Patrick’s Day is at a halt in Chicagoland!

On Tuesday, the Downtown and South Side Irish parades were officially canceled. Chicago’s parade organizers said, “Due to the continued public health concerns of COVID-19, the City of Chicago has announced it will not be issuing any permits of large gatherings in the first quarter of 2021.”

Saint Patrick’s Day and the celebrations that follow the parades are iconic traditions in the Chicagoland area, leaving […]

In the start to the second semester, Edmund Rice Camp is looking forward to starting their fundraising campaign, one gummy bear at a time.

Edmund Rice Camp is an annual tradition at Brother Rice, which serves many kids of neighboring communities by giving them a free summer camp year after year.

Due to unexpected circumstances this past year, fundraising has been especially difficult for Edmund Rice Camp. However, the student leadership team is optimistic for a smooth and successful season of fundraising.

To kick off their 2021 campaign, ERC is selling an assortment of Albanese Candies to surrounding neighborhoods and students […]

Edmund Rice Camp is an annual tradition at Brother Rice and has been deeply embedded into our school’s culture to carry out the work of Edmund Ignatius Rice.

The year 2020 has brought many challenges in hosting a successful camp. Due to COVID, Edmund Rice Camp was canceled last year, leaving the Brother Rice community with unfinished business.

The Edmund Rice Camp student leaders are hopeful that the 2021 summer camp will be hosted, remaining optimistic in such unprecedented circumstances.

Mrs. England and Mr. Augustyn are the faculty directors of Edmund Rice Camp. When asked about the plans for camp this […]

The Standard: In the Midst of the COVID Pandemic, a Look at What Changed in the Brother Rice Open House

On Sunday, Oct. 4, Brother Rice hosted its first open house of the year, allowing 7th and 8th graders to capture a glimpse of what a day in the life of a Crusader is truly like.

Although the event ran smoothly, there were significant changes compared to past open houses, due to COVID.

This year’s open house was much smaller compared to prior years. Many traditional open house demonstrations were limited or outright canceled, making it especially difficult to host a successful event.

Mr. Greg Nye, the director of the Admissions […]
