Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s flying cars playing soccer?

Rocket League is a video game with a twist. You play soccer but as a car! Each car has a rocket engine and can use boosts to go faster or fly.

Rocket League was developed and published by a company called Psyonix back in 2015. I was lucky enough that my older brother had played the game early on and recommended it to me.

It soon became my favorite game.

I played day and night to get better. My brother would play with me and soon […]

With just one roll of the dice, you could see yourself wealthy or poor.

Monopoly is a board game currently published by the company Hasbro. The goal of the game is to be as wealthy as you can and for your opponents to go bankrupt.

This game is a lot of fun but can cause lots of anger between friends.

When talking about playing with me, Senior Mike Kinnerk said, “I have yet to finish a game with you. One of us flips the board before we finish. It is fun up until that point.”

No two games of Monopoly are the […]

The Standard: Voting for the First Time

It is time. You are finally 18 years old and can vote! Now what?

Thoughtco.com says, “Pay attention to your local newspaper in the days and weeks leading up to an election. Most of them publish voters’ guides that contain bios of the candidates appearing on your local ballot and their party affiliation, as well as details of where they stand on issues important to you and your community.”

As someone who has never voted before, you need to take into consideration all the points of view and thoughts of each side.

It is a lot to take in all at […]

The Brother Rice lacrosse program is excited to prove themselves this year.

There is a lot of energy and heart in the team this year. Many fresh faces have an opportunity to make something for themselves whereas many of the older players want to leave behind their legacy.

Coach Luke said, “Despite our low numbers, I think our team has a great chance to win some games this season. We have a lot of heart and some younger players with outstanding potential. With the seniors being excellent examples, I think this season will be a shock to those who doubt […]

The rank of Eagle Scout is the highest attainable rank or achievement in the Scouts BSA program of the Boy Scouts of America. Only about five percent of all scouts have achieved this position since its inception in 1911.

Getting to the rank of Eagle Scout is no easy task. There are hundreds of requirements you must complete. There are different leadership positions you must hold. There are even projects you must organize and complete!

Scouting has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. When I was little, I remember going on camping […]

Your college roommate could be anybody. You could be standing next to him as his best man at his wedding, going on vacation with him to exotic places, or maybe never speaking to him again.

Finding a roommate is one of the most important tasks after picking a college. You could be picking your best friend for life or your mortal enemy. A lot rides on your decision.

Some things to keep in mind when looking for a roommate are your habits. Do you stay up late? Do you stay active, fitness-wise? Do you party a lot? Not only should […]

Over Christmas break, Brother Hayes took some of his physics students to visit the Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.

Brother Hayes has taken many students to see and learn from this museum. This makes the 21st annual trip to Dayton.

This was a terrific experience that not only showed us the history of each type of airplane used, but also how planes evolved and upgraded over time.

Senior Mark Kelly said, “The base held almost every single piece of engineering genius that seemed impossible for that era. These planes seem to be able to do almost the impossible. […]

The Standard: A jaw-dropping experience

2020-01-26T03:39:10-06:00

On Saturday, Jan. 18, I had a very unusual morning. I was told to take different kinds of medicine and had to go without eating or drinking for at least 6 hours.

At 9 a.m., I went to the oral surgeon and had to sit in a dentist’s chair. The assistant talked to me about the procedure to remove my wisdom teeth. She had me sign some forms and asked for some information about me. I figure she was just going to use that information to quiz me after the procedure.

After the assistant was done talking to me, the […]

The Standard: Three Thanksgiving Dinners

Three strikes make a turkey, but what do three turkeys make?

Thanksgiving this year will be interesting. Not only will I be celebrating on Thursday, but on Friday and Saturday as well!

Thanksgiving Day will be the usual celebration event. All of my cousins, aunts, and uncles will meet at my aunt’s house for dinner. From there, the older cousins go out to the park and play a traditional football game. After the game is done or when we get called back for dinner, everyone makes a line in the small kitchen to make their plates.

With so many choices of […]
