The Standard: Brother Rice & Mother McAuley take on the Polar Plunge

On Sunday, March 3, Brother Rice and Mother McAuley loaded the buses and traveled down to Lake Michigan to take on the Polar Plunge in support of the Special Olympics.

Sophomore Nolan Leonard said, “Raising money for the Mount Sion project and the Special Olympics has a spot in our hearts here at Brother Rice, and we are happy that it was such a huge success.”

The fundraising by Brother Rice and Mother McAuley raised over 16,000 dollars, and the total earnings overall reached up to 2 million dollars. Around 70 Mighty Macs and Crusaders participated in this plunge.

The Standard: Rugby Season is Right Around the Corner

As the new rugby season is underway, Brother Rice alumnus and head coach Jack Sullivan is looking for the new starting 15. Brother Rice rugby has a reputation for being a powerhouse every year, and the team looks forward to continuing the tradition.

New member of the team, senior T.J McNichols said, “Rugby is unlike any other sport I have ever played. There is a lot more conditioning than I expected, but I am willing to do whatever I need for this team’s success.”

The Standard: The Crusader Pep Rally

This past Friday, Brother Rice hosted its yearly Pep Rally, having fun competitions, an eating contest, and an amazing performance from our Lady Crusaders.

The hosts of the day, Connor Stack and JD Maloney, had some high praises for the event.

Junior Connor Stack said, “I was really happy with the turnout. The students participated, the fans got involved, and the day was just very enjoyable.”

The first event of the day was the scooter relay race. Although the seniors seemed to be heavy favorites to win, they ended up coming in third place after Brendan Hayes fell off his scooter. […]

The Standard: Brother Rice vs. Mount Carmel Hockey

Sunday, Oct. 1, the Brother Rice Crusaders took on the Mount Carmel Caravans at Southwest Ice Arena in Rice’s home opening hockey match.

As the puck dropped at 7:10 to start off the game, the arena erupted as the excitement in the building rose. The atmosphere, the fans, and the skating crusaders would sound better were ready to start off their season, eager for a win.

Senior Ryan Hartz said, “It is good to be back here cheering on the boys tonight, I can’t wait to see our Crusaders tear them to shreds.”
