The Standard: 2023 Crusader Turkey Bowl

One of the best traditions that comes with Thanksgiving is Turkey Bowls. The Crusaders held their annual Turkey Bowl last Thursday, Nov. 16.

There was a great showing, with 21 teams; however, only one team came out on top. This year’s champion was Team Callaghan.

The championship game kicked off under the lights after a long day of games. It was a triple overtime thriller, ending in a Ryan Hartz touchdown pass to Chris Daugherty.

Team Callaghan consisted of only Brother Rice baseball players.

The Standard: 2023 Football Season Wraps Up

The 2023 football season came to an abrupt end last Friday after the Crusaders fell to the Batavia Bulldogs. The Crusaders finished the season with an overall record of 5-5.

Coming into the season, there were high hopes. Unfortunately, a string of injuries and a tough schedule resulted in a sad ending.

Injuries first struck the Crusaders during their week 2 matchup against Marist. Junior linebacker and captain Christian Pierce’s season came to an end because of an ACL tear.

The very next week, senior wide receiver Rickey Taylor and senior safety Jake Dugger both broke their collarbones.

The Standard: Homecoming Preview: Crusaders Take on the 90s

The football season has already passed the halfway point, and that means homecoming is here! This year, the Crusader homecoming theme is the 90s.

Student Council President Seamus Hanley said, “We wanted to come up with something that was original. Something not a lot of people have done before.”

This year’s homecoming falls on Oct. 14, after the football team faces off against the Montini Broncos.
