The last year of high school was the fastest year of my life. At the end of summer, I remember thinking to myself about how busy my senior year would be. Looking back, I wish I would have lived in the moment a little more.

Coming to Brother Rice was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. This school has helped me learn to make positives out of negative situations. During sophomore year the teachers I had gave me a lot of assistance throughout the pandemic.

There have been a handful of people in this building that I will […]

One of the hardest things to do in sports is to win. Something harder than that is to win consistently. That’s exactly what senior Tom Bennett had to do when entering his first match at the State Championship.

Bennett made light work of his first two matches on the first day of the three-day tournament at the State Farm Center on the campus of the University of Illinois. Then, he came across his biggest challenge yet. He would have to wrestle the number one seeded wrestler in the state.

Going into the match Tom knew what lay ahead.

“My opponent was […]

After three years of wrestling in high school Tommy Bennett is still chasing something. Bennett has qualified to state every year throughout his high school tenure. He has yet to stand on the podium as a champion, but something is different this year.

As a senior captain of the team, Bennett has embraced his role and made some major adjustments to his approach this season.

With COVID-19 causing an unusual wrestling season last year it was easy for athletes to slack off and lose leverage on other competitors.

Tommy did the opposite.

Morning workouts became a usual start to the day before […]

The Chicago Bulls are back.

It’s been a long time since the Bulls have looked like a playoff contending team. Bulls fans have been praying for a special season since the end of the Derrick Rose era.

The team’s front office answered those prayers.

During this past summer, the Bulls added some superstar talent to the team’s roster. Demar DeRozan, Lonzo Ball, and Alex Caruso all are new faces to the organization. These guys aren’t just some average additions. These guys are able to make substantial impacts on big time basketball games.

These guys have definitely fit in pretty well with returning […]

The Standard: Evolution of the Broadcast Journalism Program

There’s a new location for the popular broadcast journalism class at Brother Rice. Mr. Vogt spent his time in room 100 in the past years, but it was time for change. He packed his bags and headed to Ms. Forbes’ old room right down the hall.

There are pros and cons to this new move. The pros definitely outweigh the cons considering the cons are little things such as seating and carpet. The old room had wheels on the chairs with carpet that made you feel like you were learning in your living room. It was a different style […]
