On Sunday, November 16, a group of Brother Rice students spent a cold evening sleeping on the football field. The students made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and raised over 4,000 dollars for Covenant House Illinois.
Senior Vincent Walker said, “I knew it was going to be cold, but did not realize it would be that cold.” The temperature dropped below freezing for most of the night but the boys stayed strong.
Junior Jayden Ortiz said, “Seeing what it was like to spend a night in the cold was eye opening.” The Crusaders enjoyed soup made by Brother Hayes along with his famous bread.
They raised over 4,000 dollars for Covenant House Illinois, which helps support teens who are homeless. Junior Kim Victoria said, “Raising money to help kids our age with something we take for granted is important.”
Covenant House has provided 15,000 nights of shelter for people ages 18-24. The money that these brave Crusaders have raised will go directly to impacting those in need in the greater Chicago area.
