The Brother Rice Crusaders lacrosse season for 2024 kicked off on March 18 against Homewood Flossmoor. This new season brings a bunch of changes, starting with new head coach, Jacob Karmia. Coach Karmia, who was an assistant for last year’s team, is super pumped about this season and has big hopes for the team.

Senior Dom Pettenon, a big Brother Rice lacrosse fan, said, “I am excited for another BR lacrosse season and see what this new coach can do with the team.”

When taking a look at the roster, it has many senior players. Leading the charge are Chris Orth, who is a three-year starter guarding the goal, senior Tommy Witt, junior Nick Scarriot and freshman Quinn Muldoon. The attacks are led by junior Jake Singler, senior Jake Surma and Senior Mike Marshall, who showed much skill at the attack position last season. These guys are the backbone of the team, bringing their experience and skills to the field.

Senior Jake Surma said, “With the new coaching staff this year, we have a lot of senior and freshman talent on this team.”

In the off season the team lost some key players from last year, including captain Jack McGuffage and Rob Reagan. Their absence is going to sbe felt for sure, but the team is determined to step up and fill those shoes.

Junior Nick Scarriot said, “I am excited for this season and ready to get off to a fresh start with this new coaching staff.”

With Coach Karmia at the helm and a solid crew of seniors leading the charge, the Brother Rice Crusaders are ready to take on whatever challenges come their way this season.
