This school year, Brother Rice is introducing a new Math Honors Society. The club is also known as the Mu Alpha Theta.
The club hopes to gain students for math conference contests for the math team, have members tutor fellow students, and help run grade school math contests.
On Monday, Sept. 15, Mu Alpha Theta met for its first meeting of the year. At the meeting, students got the run down on what Mu Alpha Theta is all about. Senior Josip Paraga said, “I’m excited to be with my classmates who share a love of math.”
Teachers Ms. Pansino and Mrs. O’Connor are excited to have people that are happy to tutor and come to math competitions. Senior Declan Stanley said, “I’m eager to get started and help out other students with their math.”
MAT will host monthly meetings discussing math contests and tutoring. Senior Colin Nye said, “I’m ready to help the math team at contests and give it all I got.”
The first math contest is on Saturday, Oct. 18.
