Wow. How am I a senior already? I remember being a freshman, thinking I have all the time in the world; now just like that, I’m in my last year of high school. Being a senior brings a lot of fun and upside, but also a lot of responsibility. This year, I will be serving as the editor-in-chief of The Standard, which is a great honor to receive.

These first couple weeks of school have been very exciting. All my classes are very unique, and while challenging, I am enjoying all of them. In fact, I asked a couple of seniors how they are feeling about this upcoming year.

Senior Coy Workman said, “I am very excited to challenge myself in the classroom this year.” Like Coy, I know many kids who want to ramp up their academics to get into the college of their choice.

Senior Adam McBrearty said, ”Although I transferred here last year, I can feel the whole grade coming together.”

As we seniors go throughout high school together, you can truly feel the Brotherhood in the school. Whether we transferred in or have been here all four years, our grade is now becoming one, and it is great to see.

All of these factors should lead towards an extremely exciting senior year for all of us, especially the staff of The Standard. We have an excellent group working together to create the yearbook this year. Although we are a smaller class, I know we will be pumping out tons of quality stories.

My highlights of the last couple weeks have been the football game vs. Lincoln Way-East, which you can read about in Matthew Murzyn’s story, and the senior breakfast, which Antonio Barraco wrote. We kicked off the new year strong in our first mass, which Daniel Costello wrote about as well.  All in all, this year seems like it is going to be a lot of fun.
