On Friday, Jan. 17, the Brother Rice bowling team competed in the IHSA Regional tournament hosted by Stagg High School. Coming off a great regular season, the Crusaders were ready to put on a show in the playoffs.
The Crusaders came in second place as a team with a final score of 6,072, narrowly losing to Shepard High School, who put up a score of 6,124. The Crusaders had some great performances out of sophomore Zach Johnson and seniors Kris Love and Jeremy Gasca.
While the Crusaders didn’t see first place in the team event, Gasca was the tournament’s individual champion. Jeremy dominated the competition putting up a score of 1,438, defeating the second place winner by over 90 points.
“Going into regionals, I had major confidence. Regionals were being held somewhere the team has been solid in the past. More specifically, a place I grew up in, so winning felt like a small homecoming for me,” Gasca stated after his regional victory.
Jeremy’s season will not end yet, as he will be competing for the state championship this weekend.
“It’s an amazing feeling that I get to showcase what I can do to a statewide audience,” said Gasca.
Jeremy will travel to O’Fallon, Illinois and compete on Friday and Saturday with a chance at eternal glory. Good luck Jeremy!
