With a shutout win last Tuesday against DePaul College Prep, the Crusader soccer team took home the CCL Blue Championship. After a 20-year-long drought, they finally ended it.

Junior Liam Greene said, “It is crazy to be a part of something that hasn’t been done in so long. My fellow teammates and I will never forget this.”

The Crusaders clinched it with a record of 7-1-1. This title is shared with the co-champions, Marmion Academy. The Crusaders had some crucial wins to achieve this. A huge win against Marmion Academy put them in contention to be number one.

Senior Christian Potoczny said, “This was one of our best played games this season. All cylinders were firing for our team. If we didn’t win this, we wouldn’t have gotten the chance to compete for the championship.”

All season, the Crusaders worked hard and dominated on the field. This was well deserved for this team because they have four-year starters who have been working hard every year. They’ve been wanting this every year. They finally did it.

Senior Bruce Harris said, “Being a senior, it’s awesome that we won for some of our last seasons. To top the cake, it would be great if we won state.”

Following the title for the CCL Blue, the Crusaders are hoping to win state as they prepare to head into the playoffs.
