The Brother Rice family is continually growing. One recent addition is Mr. Woods.

Mr. Woods, an algebra and geometry teacher, enjoys his new environment, an environment he has always wanted to be a part of.

Mr. Woods said, “Working with an all-boys school is something I preferred. It’s actually better for me because communicating and building young men is something I always wanted to do.”

Despite being new, Mr. Woods has already made quite an impact in Brother Rice and is well respected by his students.

Freshman Amir Gray said, “Mr. Woods is a very good teacher. He is very hands on and invests in his students. He is also funny and relates well to his students. He’ll throw a joke in there once in a while to keep us relaxed about the subject we’re learning, and it’s really helpful. He’s a really cool teacher overall.”

Fellow freshman Ryan Gierhahn agreed. Gierhahn said, “Mr. Woods is always available before or after class if I ever need any help. He makes class easier by showing us lots of examples. He’s also around during my lunch if I need help.”

Mr. Woods is able to present class materials in a way that is easy for students to pick up and provides students a laid-back classroom where they can work hard, learn plenty, and still have fun.

Jimmy Biondo said, “He writes down class material and discusses it as simply as he can. He has students answer questions to ensure we know the material and gives us useful practice work.”

Biondo, a sophomore, enjoys Woods’ ability to mix work and play together in order to give students the best class possible. Biondo said, “Mr. Woods knows when to have fun and when to be serious.”

Mr. Woods’s favorite part of teaching is helping students achieve their goals. He said, “I like the student-interaction aspect of teaching and seeing a student come in, learn things, and grow.”

Additionally, Mr. Woods is a freshman basketball coach and can be found working with students in the resource room during 8th period.

Mr. Woods said, “I’m currently coaching the freshman basketball team with Coach Klutch. I’m hoping this is going to be a fun season. We have a lot of athletes on the team right now, and I’m looking for a successful season.”

The Brother Rice community is very happy to have Mr. Woods at Brother Rice and wish him much success going forward.
