On Jan. 5, two Brother Rice students from the hockey team were selected to play in the CCHL vs. SHL all-star game. Jack Keaty and James Esposito were selected as representatives in the All-Star game.

The All-Star game was set at 1:30 p.m. and took place at Allstate Arena. The final score was 7-4 with SHL taking the win.

Performances came from players of the Chicago Catholic Hockey League and the Scholastic Hockey League. The CCHL consisted of Brother Rice, St. Ignatius, St. Rita, Providence Catholic, Benet Academy, Fenwick, Mount Carmel, and Marmion Academy.

Senior Jack Keaty said, “It was a very fun experience and a great game. I believe I had a strong performance. The play was very fast and you had to play smart. Overall, I was excited to be a part of this selection of players.”

Keaty played as a forward for the All-Star game, and Esposito played as a wing. Both players had a strong performance.

Sophomore James Esposito said, “I had fun playing in the all-star game. I felt nervous, but excited about this new experience. The competition was very difficult.”

Also featured in the skills competition was sophomore Jack Gaskin. The skills competition was on the same night as well. Players from all over the league are given the chance to show off their exceptional skills.

Gaskin said, “The all-star skills competition was a great time for me and other players. I had a lot of fun and it was a great experience.”

The Crusaders have continued to excel throughout their season. The Crusaders will take on Benet Academy at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18, at Oak Lawn Ice Arena.
