In a thrilling showdown between the Brother Rice Crusaders and the Saint Ignatius Wolfpack on Tuesday, Feb. 13, the Crusaders came in with an impressive 26-3 record and the Wolfpack coming in at 15-13.

The scoring was led by junior Caden Workman, who showed his skills with an impressive 17 points. Following closely behind, junior Marcos Gonzales contributed 16 points, while senior Zavier Fitch added 14 points, and senior Ty Wooten chipped in 11 points. Senior Cale Cosme rounded out the Crusaders offensive game with 9 points.

Senior point guard Cale Cosme said, “I thought we played good and felt good to end the season with a win.”

Despite facing a 10-point deficit at halftime, the Crusaders rallied at the start of the third quarter. Their defense made the Wolfpack struggle to create any big plays. The Crusaders climbed their way back into the lead, leaving the gym with a win with a final score of 69-60.

Sophomore Brian Guinane, who manages the team, said, “I was not too worried because I knew the boys would come ready to play in the second half.”

This hard-fought win brought the Crusaders to a great 27-3 record, securing their position as the runners up in the CCL standings. The Crusaders concluded their regular season with a 59-42 victory over Notre Dame High School in Niles, bringing their final record to an impressive 28-3.

Senior Dominic Pettenon said, “I loved watching Cale Cosme and Fitch throughout the season.”

With the playoffs next on the calendar, the Brother Rice Crusaders are determined to carry their momentum forward as they set their sights on a deep postseason run.
