On Tuesday, Feb. 3, BRTV honored their seniors before the basketball game against Lake Forest Academy. There were eight seniors honored including: Garrett Boyer, Patrick Brady, Brian Guinane, Gavin Hartz, Aidan Leary, Nolan Leonard, Jack Makuch, and Aiden Walsh. They have all contributed so much to the program and are very thankful for everything that has made the last four years so special.
Senior Nolan Leonard reflected on his journey through BRTV: “Brother Rice TV has helped me to grow so much. Because of the wonderful opportunities I have been able to grow as a journalist, broadcaster, and, most importantly, as a person. It has brought me great pleasure to watch the continued growth of this club. It has helped me find my voice here at Brother Rice.”
They were honored before the game with a ceremony and after the game, there was a party with plenty of food from one of Brother Rice’s biggest sponsors, The Whistle.
Senior Jack Makuch had this to say about the ceremony: “It was a really special night being recognized with some of my best friends in the best broadcasting program on the South Side.”
BRTV is an opportunity to truly be able to see what goes on during a broadcast. It is a club for everyone and is a great stepping stone to becoming a professional broadcaster. Mr. Creed does a great job organizing everything for the group, from getting donuts at meetings to organizing broadcasts with Marquee.
These seniors have seen it all; they have helped broadcast some of the best games in Brother Rice history. There were also a lot of fun moments while broadcasting.
Senior Patrick Brady’s favorite moment broadcasting came from that night when he announced Joe Niego’s buzzer beater.
Brady said, “Joe’s buzzer beater was definitely my favorite moment broadcasting, and it made my senior night ten times better.”
With the 2026 class moving on after the spring, the younger classes have the future in their hands and will have to step up. The program will miss these eight, and they will miss BRTV. It has been a great four years being a part of the best broadcasting club in the South Side.
