Crusader basketball has been off to a great start this season. The team has improved to 19 wins and two losses and have been playing some great basketball.
Over the Christmas break, the Crusaders participated in the Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic basketball tournament. They advanced to the semifinal game, but fell to Marian Catholic in double overtime by a score of 75-74. The Crusaders placed fourth overall in the tournament against some of the best teams in the state.
Senior Zavier Fitch was named to the All-Tournament Team. Zavier set a tournament record with 51 rebounds in just four games.
Coach Stamas said, “Fitch seems to take it another step. This was obviously by far his best game.”
Senior Cale Cosme was also named to the All-Tournament Team. Cosme led the Crusaders by averaging 18.3 points per game.
Cosme said, “‘We can play at any pace, with any team, anywhere.”
The Crusaders bounced back by winning against catholic league rival Providence Catholic, by a score of 65-37. Also, the Crusaders have taken home the Battle of Pulaski trophy by defeating the Marist Redhawks by a score of 65-47 in a thrilling home win. This win will give the team the momentum they need to continue winning and to become even better as the season progresses.
Senior Zavier Fitch said, “Marcos is always in the right place, and hits me with a pass when I need it.”
This connection between the two has led the Crusaders in the right direction and will hopefully lead to more success as the season goes on.
