The 2024-2025 sports season has officially begun. On Aug. 23, the Crusader Fan Fest introduced all Brother Rice fall sports teams for their upcoming seasons.
To kick off the night, the freshman-sophomore football teams battled each other in a friendly scrimmage. After the scrimmage, the cross country team had their introductions ahead of their seasons.
Senior captain Gavin O’Connor said, “It was great to be introduced and have my parents there. I appreciate the recognition and it is a great way to start the season. We are hoping that this season is one of the best in recent years.”
After cross country finished up, the soccer team came out to scrimmage each other in preparation for their big season. After coming off a devastating supersectional loss this past season, the kicking Crusaders have hired a new soccer coach, Alvaro Perez, and have high expectations for this season and hope to make a big playoff run.
Then, the golf team had their senior chipping contest. Players hit from the endzone and aim for the 50-yard line, hoping to be the closest to the target. Senior Patrick Hermanson was named champion this year.
“Winning in front of all the fans was a very cool experience.” said Hermanson. “At the course we usually don’t see fans, so I will always remember those fans cheering.”
Once the contest was over, the varsity football team concluded the fest, competing in a scrimmage against each other. Wearing both the maroon and white jerseys in fashion, everyone was enjoying a preview of an exciting season.
Senior captain Conner Stack said, “Fan Fest was a great experience for our team. It was great going out there and simulating a Friday night game.”
Look for all of the fall sports teams this season as they all look to have big years. Go, Crusaders!
