On March 7, the Crusaders defeated Lemont High School, 53-41, in the sectional finals, securing a spot in the super sectionals. Senior guard Marcos Gonzales led the team with 20 points.
“This game meant a lot to me personally,” Gonzales said. “Losing this game two years in a row hurt, and I made a promise to my peers and myself that we would get back here and go even further.”
Gonzales has been a true leader for the team, and Friday was no different. He looks to continue his strong performance and guide the Crusaders toward a state title in his senior season.
Senior Joe Bowen reflected on the moment from a broadcasting perspective.
“For my last basketball broadcast for BRTV, I couldn’t have asked for a better ending,” Bowen said. Bowen has been part of BRTV for four years.
The Crusader Crazies brought energy to the stands.
“It was one of the most fun games I’ve ever been to,” said senior Brian Biando. “The students were loud, and the atmosphere was electric.”
The Crusaders will face Peoria High School in the super sectionals for a chance to advance to the state finals in Champaign, Illinois.
