On Tuesday, Jan. 13, the Brother Rice Crusaders played the Aurora Central Catholic Chargers.
After an overtime loss against Downers Grove South, the Crusaders were hungry for a dominating win.
The Brother Rice basketball team outscored the Chargers 57-23.
The Crusaders defense played a really big part in this Tuesday night win. Point Guard Charlie Wizgird ‘26 said, “I would say the energy and intensity that we came out with helped us hold them to 23 points. We did a nice job of communicating with each other through their screens which allowed us to get stops.”
With Brother Rice’s hard schedule, it could’ve been easy to let this non-conference game be a trap game. Senior big man JJ Manos said, “It was really important to stay focused and play our kind of ball.”
That’s exactly what they did. The Chargers defense w no match for the Crusader offense. Rice’s offense scored double digits every quarter of the game while holding Aurora to single digits per quarter.
With the match up against St. Laurence that happened on Wednesday, Jan. 14, Senior Joe Niego took some time to reflect on this great team win: “I think the win revealed that if we just stick to the game plan and play together we can dominate teams and also compete and beat the top teams as well.”
The Brother Rice basketball team now improves their record to 12-6 and is ready for more confident wins the rest of this season.
