On Friday, Jan. 24, the Brother Rice Crusaders defeated the DePaul Prep Rams 53-52 in a very close heavyweight matchup. After a tough loss to the Marist Redhawks, the Crusaders needed a game like this to bounce back.

The Rams were the previous number one team in the state and seemed almost unbeatable. With a national ranking of 17, and impressive wins against teams like Mater Dei, they had everything going for them.

The Crusaders have had a very impressive season as well and have been very fun to watch. Despite this, they were heavy underdogs in this game.

The game went back and forth all night long. The Crusaders were led by Jack Weigus with 16 points. Marcos Gonzales also had 13, and KJ Morris had 10 points. By the fourth quarter, they were up by 13 points with about five minutes left.

The Rams were not going down without a fight. After a couple quick threes and some great defense, it was a 2 point game again. The Rams needed a huge stop to get the ball back.

They got the stop and went down to try and tie the game. The Rams were fouled under the basket and were at the line to tie the game with a couple of seconds left.

The first free throw was good, and every seat on North Rockwell Street was empty, awaiting the next shot. The second bounced around and out, the Crusaders got the rebound and the game was over.

The Crusaders overcame their expectations and defeated the Rams. This team has a lot of heart and talent. They are one of the most dangerous teams in the state and are a force to be reckoned with.

Catch the next big game this Friday, Jan. 31, against the Fenwick Friars. Senior Night festivities will feature BRTV members. Stream will begin on the Brother Rice YouTube channel at approximately 6:30 p.m.
