The Crusaders showed no signs of slowing down after a dominant 42-18 win over St. Charles North on Saturday, Nov. 5. The win marked another very strong performance for the team gaining even more momentum as they advanced to the final four in the IHSA Playoffs.
Senior tight end Colin Goggin reflected on the key to the team’s success following the win. “I would say that the key to the win on Saturday was our team chemistry,” Goggin said. “Knowing that I can trust everyone on the offense and everyone on the defense to do their correct job makes it an easy game to play.”
The Crusaders came out firing with a 28-9 lead at the half. CJ Gray both ran and tossed a touchdown. Damari Thigpen had a punt return touchdown, and both Jameson Davis and Jaylin Green had two touchdowns of their own.
Anything is possible in IHSA playoff football which is why you need to stay on your heels week in and week out. Senior defensive back Danny Speski said, “We’re approaching each week with good focus and good energy, trying to have the best practices to play well in the game.”
This team has been nothing short of spectacular this year, and all good teams have good chemistry. Senior kicker Brady Gomez said, “Brotherhood runs through Brother Rice, but it’s thriving within the football team. The endless bonding between players from different positions and ages is one of many examples of Brotherhood on the football team.
The Crusaders are home against Downers Grove North on Saturday and will look to punch their ticket to the state championship game at Illinois State University.
