The Brother Rice baseball team had an exhilarating win over Mount Carmel on April 30. Brayden McKendrick pitched a great game and led the Crusaders to victory against the Caravan.

Senior Mike Dematteo said, “It was a great come-from-behind win in a huge rivalry game. McKendrick’s performance was a huge help and Chris Dorts had a clutch walk-off hit.”

Heading into the seventh inning, the Crusaders were down three. Senior Rudy Perez had a two RBI double to bring the deficit to one. Jackson Natanek followed up with a sac fly, tying up the game.

Senior Ryan Hartz said, “This showed a great testament to the toughness of the team being able to come back being down three runs in the last inning.”

The clutch runs from Perez and Natanek extended the game into nine innings. Senior Chris Daugherty ended the game with an impressive walk-off hit.

Senior Casey Giemzik said, “It’s great having a clutch player on the team like Dorts. He came up in a big spot when we needed him, and it was pretty electric.”

The Crusaders hope to carry on this momentum into the remainder of the season with hopes for another deep playoff run.
