The Brother Rice golf team’s season ended last week. For any sport, it is always a sad goodbye for the seniors. Although it may be sad, there are a lot of happy memories that were made this season and through those seniors’ careers.

Senior Kevin McShane said, “This season was definitely my favorite out of all my Brother Rice golf years. I am sad that it’s over, but glad I got to end off on a high note!”

The Crusaders had a great season as they went 9-4 in match play against other schools. They also came second in regionals, with St. Rita ahead of them by five strokes. In regionals, they beat seven other schools to advance to sectionals.

The varsity team was made up of ten seniors and six juniors.

Senior Patrick Hermanson said, “You can play golf anywhere, but playing golf with your fellow crusaders is something special. I’ll definitely be golfing with these guys until I can’t swing the clubs anymore.”

Seniors Thor Hock and Patrick Hermanson were named All-Catholic League for their tremendous performances this season. Hock was one stroke away from making it down to individual states.

Hock said, “It’s hard knowing how close I was to making it down to state, but that’s just the game of golf. Sometimes you make that putt and sometimes you miss it. It’s just how the game goes.”

This golf season didn’t end the way the team wanted, but that does not dismiss how well they played this year, and all the things they accomplished.

For the graduating seniors it’s a sad but thankful goodbye. For the juniors, it’s an opportunity to set higher goals next year.
