On Oct. 19, the Crusader freshman football team took on the St. Rita Mustangs for the Chicago Catholic League Blue title. Both teams going into the game undefeated; this was a must watch, highly anticipated game.
The team had a great week of practice, going hard every day because they knew what was at stake.
The Crusaders jumped out to a first series touchdown as quarterback Rocco Galasso hit target Logan Sales.
The wide receiver room was a key factor for the Crusader offense all season. The Crusader offense was led by Anthony Cartolano, Rocco Galasso, Matthew Murzyn, Logan Sales, Jameson Davis, and the offensive line.
Cartolano said, “If we want to stay successful, we have to stay healthy, train in the off-season, and get more familiar with our quarterback, Rocco. We also need to get closer with the guys up front on the line because they are the most important part of the team.”
The defense was led by Frank Miceli, who had six tackles.
Miceli said, “The offense showed up in the game where we needed them the most. The defense was also doing great until halftime where we got too comfortable, and led up too many points in the second half. Every week we built off our success and tried our best.”
The Crusaders defeated the Mustangs 33-25, and plan on building off of their success for the future.
